After suffering at the start of the game against Emiliano Iriart and Carlos Cabeza, Adrien Maigret and Bastien Blanked knew how to seize their chance and turn the tide to win in a amazing tie break. The two Frenchmen thus become the first tricolor pair to qualify for the 1/16th finals of Greenweez Paris Premier Padel Major.

At our microphone, the two players look back on this victory.

Adrien Maigret: "We cannot imagine at all. Forever the first as they say and it will be us. I was missing a few trophies in my career as padel, moreover it was my partner of the day who took away the French championship titles from me and today it is he who brings me the first victory at Roland-Garros (laughs)."

Bastien Blanqué: "This is our greatest victory because first of all the place lends itself to it. We haven't beaten top players but playing on the Philippe Chatrier with this atmosphere, our families is extraordinary. We had an incredible end to the match, we lost eight points in a row, we were at the end of our rope but I told Pablo Ayma that we were going to win the match, and we succeeded, so it's monstrous."

“Tactically, Pablo was monstrous”

Adrien regarding his coach of the day, Pablo Ayma "Tactically he was monstrous. I don't speak Spanish and he made the effort to speak softly, Bastien also translated but he gave us a very clear strategy: play low on the right player on the fly and try to lob as much as possible when they advanced because the player on the left has hurt us very badly. I stubbornly played my backhand volleys on him, but he defended very well".

BB: Of course this victory is also that of Pablo because during the first set we played neither with our intuition nor with our talent. In the second set the player on the right gives us two volleys which frees us up a bit and from that moment on we put more intensity. Also the temperature dropped and that gave me the opportunity to lob a bit more and the player on the left wanted to compensate so badly that he made a few more mistakes.. "

MA: "Oddly, it was when the playing conditions dropped that I hit the best. Usually I play much better when the track is fast but surprisingly today it was the opposite".

“Bastien held the house, and I had to raise my level”

MA: " I've complained a lot on the pitch recently because I'm a bit lacking in self-confidence from not playing on the international circuit. Moreover, this can be seen during the first set of this meeting. I am totally below the required level, Bastien is in charge. I had to raise my level of play and that's what I did. I'm happy because I answered present on a not easy match”.

BB: "We also had more freshness, on the one hand thanks to the public but also because we had had time to prepare. You felt that at the end they were tired and it must be said that they had played before."

MA: " Bastien and I had played a match together in the France team, we can say that we had missed this part. We couldn't find each other. A few days ago we also played together in Holland, in very different conditions and it went rather well. Bastien held me mentally because since I lack a bit of self-confidence, I tend to get frustrated quickly. He was there for me. […]. I am basically a player on the left, I have no benchmark on the right. I didn't play an incredible game but mentally I didn't let go. "

“A moving moment”

BB:" I totally assume the teardrop (laughs). You know me, I'm a very sensitive person. This year I am having an average start to the season on the pro circuit and to come here and play a match like this where I find my level of play, where Adrien is playing very well and personally I think I had a good match. it's moving. In addition, my family and my best friends came to support me. We felt that people liked it. so yes that's why, little teardrop. "

AM: "A month ago we didn't know we were going to play together. I called Bastien to offer him an association, telling him that if we got together with French people, we would surely have a chance of having the Wild-Card. He told me he had a Spanish partner who technically is stronger than me but in the end he called me back and that's super nice of him. He told me that it was very good for the France team and to play between Blues. I thank him because maybe if I hadn't had the chance to play with Bastien I would have qualified. So thank you Bastien it's great."
