Le padel professional is jostled by very many changes of pairs which are currently taking place among the top players. Account of a foreseen avalanche.

Paquito and Di Nenno get the ball rolling

In this very intense season, the players are together almost every week. The journalists are also more than ever in contact with the players, who do not really manage to hide their emotions.

Last July, in an interview with Martin Di Nenno at Padel Magazine, the Argentinian surprised us with his transparency.

“Sometimes on Monday, I don't necessarily want to see Paco, and neither does he, but we still have to train. There are pairs that support the high pace of tournaments better, and we less well. We are very sensitive and transparent, and there are days when we do not want to be together”, explained Martin.

Indeed, at that time, we can think that Martin Di Nenno was already thinking of a possible separation. In the semi-finals of the Paris Major, Paquito seemed to have “sold off” the end of the match, physically short. This situation is not exceptional, and at the Swedish Open of the WPT the face of Di Nenno spoke volumes about an upcoming separation.

“I no longer felt Paco with the same state of mind. […] We did not have the same energies”, explained yesterday Martin to the Argentine media Olé.

This move was urgent for Di Nenno. The latter was not ready to play an additional tournament after that of Santander, and even if other top pairs will separate soon, he did not want to wait.

Ephemeral pairs

An intermediate period will therefore see several new pairs appear ephemerally. The first two are those composed by Paquito / Yanguas and Di Nenno / Nieto. If the first will only exist for a few weeks, the second could last a little longer.

The No. 3 seed has decided to part ways before the Pairs Ball that will take place after the Buenos Aires tournament, and that's why these time pairs are in place.

Paquito is determined to move to the right, and for this he has chosen to join forces with one of the best left-wing players in the world: Juan Tello.

This pair will undoubtedly be very dangerous offensively, but doubts remain about the defensive solidity of two players, who will have to compensate for the loss of the two hard workers Chingotto and Di Nenno respectively.

Chingotto / Tello, several difficult months

After 9 years together, these two players looked married. This break is indeed a divorce between two players, which surprisingly occurs in the middle of the season.

“Changes in partners are common in this world of padel, but no one experiences it the same way. Today, it's time to put an end to a project that started 9 years ago. We were very young and we entered a world that changed our lives. We grew up together, left our families behind and became inseparable “brothers” behind a dream that we realized”, explained Juan Tello on Instagram.

The feel is that this pair were still in battle, but never ended up winning the title. This season, for the first time, there has been a rupture on the pitch, with moments of estrangement visible from the outside.

Bela/Coello, then Lebron/Galan?

What is certain is that all these movements arrive before an off-season which was already announced to be boiling. No pairs are confirmed for 2023, and all options are open.

Fernando Belasteguin and Arturo Coello have won the last two tournaments, but the level that Coello has reached could lead him to seek a left-sided player who will allow him to reach all the finals.

During the 2021 World Cup in Qatar, Arturo Coello and Ale Galan crushed Sanyo / Tapia. In Dubai, at the beginning of November, the two Spaniards will probably be aligned together again: what to give them ideas? They are one of the most dreamed pairs for Spanish fans, and a pair that would undoubtedly compete for the rank of number 1.
