Welcome to the Costa del Sol! Sun, beach, Mediterranean sea and guaranteed heat (31°), no, it was not an invitation on vacation but rather this World Padel Tour Málaga Open! The competition was played in the magnificent Palacio de Deportes José María Martín Carpena, which sold out this week!

At sea level, indoors and with humidity, we had the right to a slightly slow Central Pista, which according to the main stakeholders should favor the defenders, but once again we were treated to some extremely spectacular points !

As usual, theCoach Zorrus” offers us his analysis of the tournament.

Tournament points

This week it's… the boys who are in the spotlight!

There is this point from Agustin Tapia in the third set of the semi-final, 3rd set at 5/0 15/0. Not much to say other than enjoy!

But it was Fede Chingotto who delighted us this week with two points of which he has the secret during the quarter-final against Ruiz / Tello. First in the first set, at 4/4 15/0, then in the decisive round, at 5/1 0/40, with a very distant exit from the track. Thank you very much “Super Raccoon”!

FLOPS

  1. Gil and Moyano eliminated in the round of 1: they got us used to much better!
  2. Libaak and Augsburger who for their return stall from 1/16rd final: did the young people already have their minds on vacation?
  3. Brea and Gonzalez who still went to the final and who lost against the numbers 1 but with a Béa who completely missed out. Pressure to play at home?

TOPS

  1. Sanz and Nieto who climb to the semi-finals and take a set at Coello/Tapia: the weeks go by and are alike for the Spaniards!
  2. Tello and Ruiz who go to the final and lose 7/5 and 7/6 there again against the numbers 1
  3. Tamara Icardo and Virginia Riera who point the tip of their noses in the last four: is there the potential to do better in the future?
  4. The Coello/Tapia and Sanchez/Josemaria pairs who, during this Malaga Open, each won their 10rd victory of the season on the WPT: hats off!

The finals movie

Among the ladies, we expected the tenth for Ari Sanchez/Paula Josemaría and we got it ! We witnessed a lackluster meeting in which Martita Ortega and Gemma Triay never really had the hand and the possibility of being able to impose themselves. It was a very serious final, masterfully controlled and managed by Ari and Paula who confirm their domination over the padel World.

Among the men, in the absence of the Superpibes (Franco Stupaczuk and Martin Di Nenno), there was a place to take in this final! And somewhat to everyone's surprise, it was the Tello/Ruiz pair who managed to pull out of the game. During the title match, despite a half-hearted Arturo Coello and a very tired Agustin Tapia (he of the interview at the end of the match that the head and the heart were there but not the legs) and a very tight score (7/5 7/6), it is indeed the number 1 in the ranking who win the title and like girls, tenth !

This week, last effort before the holidays and heading to Mendoza in Argentina for the Premier Padel !
