The Aficionados, after a return tournament in Finland, found themselves in the French capital for the Greenweez Paris Major. There is a slogan in the region that says “Paris is magical”, but here, we are squarely on the path to happiness!

A little nod to our French rugby players for their superb victory against the All Blacks! Some even took the time to come see us in the aisles of Roland-Garros during this GreenWeez Paris Major (including our Toulouse residents William Servat and Dorian Aldegheri), not forgetting F1 driver Pierre Gasly!

In all 37 people came to attend the “greatest show on the planet” which is 50% more than last year with a peak for the final of more than 8000 people!

As usual, the “Coach Zorrus” offers us his analysis of the tournament.

Tournament points

On the female side, we retain the Release padel of “Zazu” Osoro at 3/1 and 15/0 in the first set against Ortega/Triay.

Among the men, despite his heatstroke, it is Arturo Coello who rewards us with a Release padel followed by a “par 4” at 5/2 30/0 against Nieto/Sanz in the first set: a classic!

FLOPS

  1. Franco Stupaczuk and Martin Di Nenno: a little tour and then they're gone!
  2. Delfi Brea / Bea Gonzalez: two short sets against Osoro / Castello. What disappointment after the victory at the WPT in Finland!
  3. Mapi and Majo Alayeto disappeared much too early for their first and last Roland-Garros of the padel
  4. Our “Frenchies” who almost all failed in the first round. Learning at a high level is difficult, but you have to believe in it and work even harder!
  5. Momo Gonzalez / Sanyo Gutérrez: no comment…

TOPS

  1. Alix Collombon / Lorena Rufo: a first quarter for this pair, and we even believed in more... Congratulations Alix!
  2. Arturo Coello and Agustin Tapia who, after their accident in Finland, brought everyone back together!
  3. Fede Chingotto / Paquito Navarro: the consistency is there! Fourth final for the pair, but tensions appeared in this final. How will the rest go?
  4. Martita Ortega and Gemma Triay who are starting to find their rhythm. We're waiting for the sequel!
  5. “La Reina” Alejandra Salazar who returns in great shape with Sofia Araujo. What a pleasure to see her back on the track!

The finals movie

For the ladies, Ari Sanchez and Paula Josemaria largely dominated this final. Even if their opponents of the day had a few outbursts, overall, it was a completely mastered final. The result of this meeting is clear, but for the spectacular side, we will have to wait for the next WPT!

Among the men, we appreciated this tight first set where, despite a break, the Paquito/Chingotto pair finally lost in the tie-break. Then, it was the surge in the second: 6/1. We will also note Gaby Reca's outburst towards Fede Chingotto, which is very rare from the coach. The new kings of Paris are indeed Coello/Tapia. On the show side we will also have to wait for the next WPT!

I am waiting for you in the den of padel, from September 16 to 24, for the WPT Madrid Master!
