This weekend were held the regional championships of padel. In Occitania, they took place at WinWin Padel Club Hauts-de-Nimes. And among the ladies, it was Laurence Andreoletti and Élodie Damiano who qualified for the French championships which will take place from September 22 to 24 to the 4Padel Toulouse.

A fierce struggle

While everything could have ended in the semi-finals against Stepien / Merah, the Andreoletti / Damiano pair overturned the encounter with experience. Led 6/4, 2/6, 2/5 by the seeded 5, even saving a match point in this third set, and ending up winning 7/5 in this decisive round after a magnificent fight.

In the final, Laurence Andreoletti, former French number 20 and Élodie Damiano, number 3 in 2017 faced the No. 1 seed composed of Sylvie Piau (No. 42) and Ophélie Wuithier (No. 39). And after coming out of nowhere in the semi-finals, the Andreoletti/Damiano pair, playing at home, won the first set 6/4. Continuing their momentum, Elodie and Laurence led 4/2 in the second set but by not converting their balls from 5/2, they ended up letting the Piau / Wuithier pair come back and win the second set 6/4. The qualification was finally played in the decisive game of the third set. And it was Élodie Damiano who came to seal the fate of the match with a winning move to win the tie-break 7-5. Final score: 6/4, 4/6, 7/6 (5).

"We really did not expect to go to the end", explained Élodie Damiano to Midi Libre. After having been champions of the Gard, and now champions of Occitanie, the returnees will want to create a surprise during the French championships next September.

After being rocked by tennis for nearly 15 years, I became an absolute fan of its cousin, the padel. For nearly a year now, I've been chasing the little yellow ball with another racquet, but with just as much passion! Based in Lyon, I intend to make you better acquainted with the padel in the region and at the national level.
