The final list of players selected for the World Championships padel in Paraguay from October 29 to November 3 in Asuncion (Paraguay) was unveiled by the FFT.

The French ladies captain, Patrick Fouquet and the men's captain, Alexis Salles proposed a list which was validated by Pierre Cherret (DTN) and the COMEX of the FFT.

[box type = ”info” align = ”” class = ”” width = ””] Before analyzing this selection, it is important to understand how the world works: Each confrontation against a nation is 3 games and therefore 6 players who are used by the captain. 2 players are therefore substitutes. Most often the substitutes only play (when they play) games won in advance or games that don't really count. This is why tactically, breeders may be tempted to select individuals and not an already formed pair. [/ Box]

Ladies' selection

The France ladies team will be composed of:

  • Jessica Ginier (n ° 1) / Alix Collombon (world n ° 52)
  • Mai Vo (n ° 5) / Audrey Casanova (n ° 2)
  • Mélissa Martin (n ° 6) / Géraldine Sorel (n ° 4 fra)
  • Laura Clergue (51st player in the world) / Léa Godallier (n ° 11 fra)

Unsurprisingly, we will have the French champions of padel 2018 and the vice-champions of France. They were automatically qualified thanks to their result this weekend.

Laura Clergue and Lea Godallier were logically called. We do not know yet if Lea and Laura will play together, but we know that it is in the mind of the coach.

Finally, we will have the 4e of France, Géraldine Sorel and Mélissa Martin. Two players who play together and who know each other very well.

Recall that we have in the team of the 51e world player (Laura Clergue) and the 52e world player (Alix Collombon). The ladies team has certainly never been so strong. The captain of the France team, Patrick Fouquet can expect a lot from his team.

OUR OPINION :

Some observers might note that some players on the left could also have been selected. Like Emmelien Lambregts. She is one of the best players on the left. But "she has to be more involved in big tournaments if she wants to show that she deserves to be called ".

Kristina Clément was not very far from the selection as well. She who had performed a very good performance during the French championships of padel 2018. She gave it all. She has nothing to be ashamed of.

Marianne Vandaele is the big loser of this selection since she sees her partner selected and not her, while she also finished 3rd at the French Championships of padel. Hard hard…

The one that can blow today is Mélissa Martin. She has already shown several times that she deserved her place of course but she also showed some absences / failures in some matches or tournaments.

Patrick Fouquet probably favored the pair. However, we know the 4e pair will not play in the decisive games since there will be only 3 who will play. Should we have prioritized individualities and not a pair for 7 and 8 players? The captain made his choice.

Men's selection

In gentlemen, it was perhaps a little simpler. And yet, it is perhaps in this selection that there will be the greatest debates.

The captain of the France team padel, Alexis Salles took:

  • Bastien Blanqué (161st worldwide) / Johan Bergeron (161st worldwide)
  • Robin Haziza (World 142e) / Jérémy Scatena (World 128e)
  • Adrien Maigret (Global 191e) / Benjamin Tison (World 364e)
  • Maxime Moreau (205e world) / Mathieu Lapouge (n ° 21e fra)

OUR OPINION

No need to go back to the first 3 French pairs. They are indisputable and the coach will have plenty of time to reverse the positioning of the pairs according to opposing teams as our pairs are competitive.

Maxime Moreau was also tipped to be selected. He has indeed shown very beautiful things lately with many victories and an exceptional level of play.

The question arose for this 8e player. Jérémy Ritz seemed to us in pole position. But he explains to us to have "declined this selection because 2 weeks to be the 8e man and not play, it was too complicated to manage on a personal and professional level ". He adds: "The 3 pairs are before us in term of level. It is normal for Alexis Salles to appeal to them during the confrontations in Paraguay".

And there, Alexis Salles was certainly a little surprised by his choice, since he finally selected Mathieu Lapouge. A suprise ? Not so much when you know Mathieu and what he can bring to the team.

But inevitably, given the ranking and involvement of some players in recent months, there is disappointment and even misunderstanding.

Mathieu came 3rd in the French championships of padel, Marianne Vandaele too but it was not enough. He is the 21st French player. Other players are thus ahead of him in the national ranking. He's been injured, he hasn't played a lot in recent months. Others could therefore be approached in his place.

Alexis Salles explains his choice:

I understand this misunderstanding. Players have told me about it. Mathieu was selected as the # 8 of the team. He has little chance of playing. But he has a great mind. He can also make a hit. We saw it this year against Tison / Maigret for example. We also remember the good understanding between Max Moreau and Mathieu Lapouge during their tournament in Aix against Scatena / Haziza lost 7/6 7/6.

Afterwards, the deal with Mathieu is that he has to restore his health and be physically operational. Because even if it is unlikely to play, you never know.

But in terms of ranking, we necessarily think of Loïc Le Panse, French n ° 5 and Julien Maiget n ° 11 French. 2 players who could be part of the team. Not easy for them either. Julien Maigret was perhaps the closest to the selection with his good performances during the Padel Nations Cup.

Dimitri Huet will also not be rewarded for his French championship of padel. He too will have to prove that he can offer a similar level all year round. Jérôme Ferrandez, by his own admission, is not in great shape and will therefore miss these worlds.

Competition among ladies and gentlemen is important. And at some point, you have to make a choice. The choice is not a choice linked to the level, it is a choice that is also linked to the person, to the relationships that may exist between us all.

thus concluded Patrick Fouquet during the internship padel selectable players at Tennis Padel Sun before the summer holidays.
