A few days before the start of a new season, we were able to talk to Fiona Ligi, third Frenchwoman and vice-champion of France 2022. She returns for Padel Magazine on his year 2022 and confides in his future projects.

“A positive assessment”

“The 2022 results are very positive for me. At this time I really do not see it negative. With Laura (Clergue) we had a great season, we had a great time. At each tournament we gave it our all and we put in great performances, which gave us great results, whether in P1000 or P2000. I am very proud of us because we both had a great year”.

“The best moment I have experienced this season is the title of French vice-champions with Laura because that sums up our season well. Indeed we tried to get the best performances and we were rewarded on a last very important event. We couldn't have dreamed of better because we gave it our all and it's very nice to see that the work pays off..

My worst moment of the previous season, I would say it was the defeat against Belgium at the World Championships in Dubai. It was a disappointment for the whole team. Unfortunately these are things that happen but we must use these experiences to grow, learn and do even better the next time”.

“Play more on the international circuit”

“For 2023, on the French circuit, I am making the suspense last for my next partner. I plan to announce it in the next few days. As for the events, I will of course compete in the P2000, the 1500 depending on the dates but also the P1000 if they are not very far from my home and I am available. Last season we counted 15 tournaments played and this year ideally we should do a few more. However my priority will of course be the P2000 and 1500”.

“On the international side, as you have seen on social networks, I was contacted by Ali Alegre, a Madrid player who is embarking on a 100% padel. She is super motivated and would like to compete in several events on the World Padel Tour, A1 Padel and FIPs. We started our association last week in Alicante, and it went very well. Now we have to establish a small calendar together she and I to see our availability. I will try to move on several dates this year from any circuit and play more with her because we got along very well”.

"We have not yet agreed on which circuit to position ourselves, it will depend on our availability. However personally it is true that I have a slight preference for A1 Padel because in terms of accessibility we will say that it is a little simpler, if only to enter the tournament.

On the WPT you have to ask for a Wild-Card, it is longer and more complicated. While on A1 Padel, once you are there you can claim the final stages. Each time I participated, I played the picture. But hey, as I told you, all of this will depend on our availability. In any case, I'm very motivated to play more because it will make me grow on a personal level but also on my level of play. In France, the level continues to increase, you absolutely must not rest on your laurels and I think that it is imperative to look even further and redouble our efforts”.

“Proud to be trained by Alain Henry”

“I am a teacher of padel au Padel Squash from the Mas in Perpignan. I offer group and individual lessons. We also have the schools of padel Wednesdays and Saturdays and finally I was given the supervision of the youth competition group. Besides, I also offer sports coaching to certain players who wish to prepare for a competition or only to those who wish to get back into shape. So I can use my skills and my sporting know-how for the young group which is starting to evolve well”.

Alain Henry

“For my part, I have been coached by Alain Henry since 2017. He was my first tennis coach when I was 6 years old and years later he became my tennis teacher. padel. I am really very proud of him because he is a trainer and a person who allows me to learn more every day and to ensure that I surpass myself at each tournament. I consider him a bit like the master of the discipline. He is passionate and it shows a lot. It makes you want to move forward and invest yourself more and more every day. I am really very happy to be trained by Alain. Concerning my second cap, it also has a very important role because it offers me the opportunity to evolve as a teacher of padel".
