This is the big news of the day: Premier Padel will absorb the World Padel Tour from 2024. This means the end of circuit warfare, and the beginning of a new era.

After 10 years of activity, the WPT will completely give way to Premier Padel, a circuit founded a little over a year and a half ago, financed by Qatar Sports Investments, and which benefits from the support of the International Federation Padel.

Players finally satisfied

The first consequence of this merger between Premier Padel et World Padel Tour concerns the players. The latter who had initially feared a sanction from the WPT for having taken part in the tournaments of Premier Padel, then who have complained about the large number of tournaments to be played this season, should get some respite next season. Indeed, the FIP press release explains that the new agreement provides for the end of legal proceedings against the players.

Moreover, the fact that there is only one circuit implies a reduction in the number of tournaments, which will allow the athletes to rest more.

What are the consequences for the organizers?

You have certainly already anticipated the next problem: whoever says a single circuit means fewer tournaments, and therefore fewer opportunities for promoters to organize events. Thus, all the cities which have been able to host competitions this season are not certain of being able to receive the best players in the world next season.

We imagine that the promoters who spend the most and the cities where the audiences have been the most important will be the favorites for the big tournaments like the Major and P1 of Premier Padel and WPT Master and Open 1000. Then, perhaps less important competitions, where the presence of the stars of the padel will not be guaranteed, will allow certain cities to continue to offer beautiful tournaments of padel. But one thing is almost certain: the best will not take part in 35 tournaments in 2024... The competition therefore promises to be fierce between the different cities!

And according to our sources, the organizers of the WPT stages are in the dark for next season, and we now understand better why. the organization of the Knokke exhibition, supported by the WPT, was winning places for the Premier Padel Paris Major. Indeed, the promoters will have to work on their relations with the official circuit of the FIP if they want to be able to continue to welcome the gratin of the padel world next season.
