The first day of the Human Padel Open 2023 at 4Padel Toulouse Colomiers was intense for the French tournament of World Padel Tour. Unfortunately, only the pair Julien Seurin and Manuel Vives managed to pass the first qualifying round before losing in two sets 6/3 7/5 against a well-known pair on the circuit: Javier Valdés and José D. Sánchez.

Seurin / Vives: it's getting closer...

Despite this defeat, Julien Seurin underlined the positive points of their performance: “We lost, but we came out of this match with a positive attitude because not so long ago we felt far from these players. Today we feel we can beat them. The second set was tight and we had opportunities. We still have to work on our consistency. What I notice is the ability of those pairs that are slightly above us to temporize and play well. We will work on that to come back even stronger.”

For Manuel Vives, "we are working and we see that we are no longer so far from these players".

A fatal refereeing error

The other two French pairs lost in the first round of these previas.

However, Adrien Maigret and Philémon Raichman were very close to victory against a solid Spanish pair, Belar Vera and Victor Tur. Maybe they should have won this match.

Unfortunately, a refereeing error at a crucial moment in the game affected Adrien, who expressed his frustration.

Then the warning given by the referee to Adrien Maigret for his behavior on the court, deemed manifestly inappropriate, did not facilitate his return to the match, despite his previous good performances. This sanction disturbed his concentration and his game.

Despite the favorable winds, the Spanish adversaries were unable to take full advantage of this situation. The French managed to get back into the game and showed resilience to get back in the game, managing to fight until the decisive tie-break.

Finally, the tie-break tilted in favor of Vera / Tur, sealing the victory for the Spaniards.

Theard / Pech fell to stronger

The Benoit Theard / Thibaud Pech pair also delivered a good match against Carlos Marti and Mario Ortega, but the latter were too strong. Note that Carlos Marti and Mario Ortega beat Alvaro Melendez and Pedro Melendez in two sets in the second round of the previas.

See you Monday for the debut of our French players in the qualifications of the Human Padel Open, where we hope to see great performances.
