In this column, we will talk about injuries in our favorite sport. We do not wish it to anyone, but knowing what injuries we may suffer, it will be easier to prevent and heal them.

On the other hand, we agree that the Padel is not a contact sport like Football, Basketball or Rugby.

What injuries can we suffer?

Jorge Rodriguez is a physical trainer at World Padel Tour for many professional players. On his blog, he takes stock of the types of injuries that are most common.

  1. accidental: All of these injuries are when a player hits an element of the field (walking on a ball, walls, receiving a ball, etc.). Here, the best physically prepared players will be able to cope without injury or a player who often plays against someone who does not play often.
  1. Overload : It is when we play too often and at too high intensity and our body eventually let go (joints, muscles or ligaments). This can happen mainly during a long game or when we play too often a week and we are not used to it.

  1. The technique : When we start, we do not necessarily have the right gestures and this can be harmful for our body. We will then have to take lessons to learn to play and prevent our body. The main example is "tennis elbow" which is triggered mainly when we make a bad gesture on impact with the ball.
  1. Bad preparation : This is the preparation before a match (warm-up) and training. We should warm up at least a few minutes before playing to prevent these small injuries that can become troublesome. We all know a player who enters the field without warming up and in the first sprint he feels a tip on the back of the thigh.
  1. Climate : Here, it is external conditions which are in play. Indeed, the rain, the cold, the heat or the humidity can be at the origin of injuries to the players of Padel. For example, the ground is wet and we slip and the ankle turns.
  1. Dehydration or unhealthy diet : If our body is in a bad mood before playing a game of Padel (play on an empty stomach or without drinking, for example). The cramps will happen quickly and with them the contractures at the first stage.

Now that we know what can cause injury to the Padel, do whatever it takes to avoid them as best as possible and you can keep playing for a long time. And stretches at the end of a game allow the body to recover better and prevent muscle soreness the next day or two. Think about it!
