The European Championships Padel 2023 could well take place in 2024. Good news which comes at a time when we thought that this event was simply going to be canceled.
Indeed, Éric Largeron, the elected official in charge of padel, anticipated a cancellation last December and regretted “the lack of communication from the FIP”. Very honest comments which perhaps helped move the subject forward.
At the beginning of January, the FIP sent its members a proposed date and a call for applications to host these 2023 European Championships in 2024.
For now, this is a letter of intent. Concretely, the event is not confirmed at all, but the hope of having a European championship has been revived.
Many details remain to be seen to confirm the establishment of this European championship. But we understand that two dates are being studied: the week of April 15 to 21, 2024 could be the date of the European Championships of padel seniors, While the week of July 22 to 28, 2024 could be that of the European Championships of padel juniors.
There is still everything to do, everything to validate for the FIP and especially for the member country which would therefore have the complicated task of organizing the Senior European Championship in barely three months.
Let us remember that normally, the European Championships of padel for adults should have taken place last November. But for unknown reasons, they did not take place, and surprisingly, there was no press release on this theme. The members of the FIP were also surprised by this lack of communication while national federations and players were expecting a return from them in the second half of 2023.
In 2024, we could have the European Championships of padel 2023 in the spring and the 2024 Worlds next October/November. A situation already known since it was the case in 2021, the 2020 World Championships having been postponed by a year due to Covid.
However, let us remain very cautious, because for the moment, nothing has been decided yet.
