It is a rather surprising announcement that came out this week, the Argentinian Mauri Andrini was not called by the English federation for the worlds of Padel 2021.

Mauri Andrini, a passionate

A former professional padel player and now coach, Mauri Andrini is above all a lover of the discipline.

His journey perfectly depicts the special connection he has with the sport. In 2014, Mauri was named by the British Padel Federation as “ Head Coach ”of the British adult and junior teams.

In November 2015, Mauri, as Junior Head Coach with Matt Thomas, achieved 3rd place at the Junior World Padel Championships in Mexico, behind the two strong teams of Argentina and Spain. This was a huge success as it was Great Britain's first appearance at the Junior World Championships.
Subsequently, he will take charge of the UK senior team, which he will lead to an 8th place at the Lisbon World Championships (a record).

A perpetual ascent which foreshadowed only the positive for the future.

Why is this surprising?

Except that it was without counting on this decision which will have taken almost everyone on the wrong foot. Quite simply because Andrini is, in a way, the one who built this team. He allowed his players to turn a corner and brought the South American touch and the experience he lacked to be able to approach the best teams in the world. And what poses the most problem is the fact that the FROM (Lawn Tennis Association) which manages the Padel in the UK, made this meaningful decision  only 1 month before the start of the world championships  in Qatar.

The bomb is dropped: Andrini is out!

Mauri Andrini shared a message on his networks in which he thanks the players for their devotion and their sense of effort throughout his tenure, and in this message he especially announces that he  leaves the reins of the English selection after 7 years,  with in particular as justification on behalf of the federation “ a budgetary impossibility ”  so that cooperation can continue.

This is therefore an important page in English padel that is turning, and we are curious to see who the federation will opt for, but above all, what will become of this English selection which seemed to be on the upward slope in recent years...

Passionate about football, I discovered padel in 2019. Since then, I have been crazy in love with this sport to the point of abandoning my favorite sport.
