Maxime Joris is currently one of the best French players. The adopted Bordeaux resident is 12th in the standings after a well-conducted 2023 season.

Maxime Joris in 2023 is (among others): a 3rd place in P2000, a 5th place at the French Championships, a title and a final in P1500, a French N2 champion title with the Big Padel and a FIP Rise final.

A great track record for this player of only 23 ! While the 2024 season has only just begun, Maxime spoke with us about his objectives for the year.

His return from injury

Today, things are better. I was a little apprehensive when starting again because I still had some pain, especially since I returned to competition straight away with a tournament in Lithuania.

I felt a lack of rhythm at the beginning but apart from that I have no more pain: I am ready again for the start of the season.

The 2024 program

This year I will mainly focus on the international circuit and some P1000 to be able to put some money aside.

Afterwards, as I said, I will turn to the international market and try to make some P2000 if there are no significant FIPs on the same date.

A partner in mind?

I'm not sure about my teammate. There, I'm going to Dubai with Thomas Vanbauce. I also know that I will do the French Championships with Philemon Raichman. So, in the end, I'm going to alternate partners this season... at least, not for the moment.

It's not really wanted to not have a permanent teammate. I would like to have a project with a partner, but Today it's very complicated to settle down with someone. In the end, I really don't worry about it, I had been warned by my coaches. I live day by day and I accept it very well.

Getting with a foreign player would also be a great project.. I haven't had the chance yet because I don't live 100% in Spain, although I try to go there frequently. I don't have this lifestyle yet, and there's also language blockage... I must admit that it's a bit of a hindrance. Furthermore, I only started international tournaments at the end of last year, and I concentrated mainly in France and not very far away.

His relationship with Philémon Raichman

We both started tournaments together last year. For our first tournament, we did a small final of P2000, and then we have won a P1500.

After that, we both went to Chile and we made a FIP Rise final. THE results were really encouraging at the end of last year, but unfortunately we didn't perform very well in P2000 at the start of the year.

At this moment, we said to ourselves that we were going to give ourselves a little time, try to see who we could play with, but if we had the opportunity to evolve together again, we would. This is what we did in Lithuania, but as I lacked rhythm, it was complicated.

With Phil, we got along very well right away, so why not continue to do a few tournaments together.

French team objective

I estimate that I reached my maximum ranking in France. In addition, I have ambitions and desire to compete against the best players in the world.

I have this desire to succeed in padel, to represent my country at the World Championships or European Championships. So my plans are bigger than staying in France.

Today, I know that I can potentially be on the list but, at the same time, I am perhaps not in the players to take this year, especially since I'm not very well ranked internationally. There are French people who are much better ranked than me.

On the other hand, it doesn't matter, I keep the goal, and if it happens, it happens. One thing is certain: I will give 100% to try to achieve it.

Bordeaux P2 in sight?

It's a goal. On the one hand, it will depend on me because I will have to play relatively well. On the other hand, with my ranking, I won't be able to enter the tournament directly.

I hope to be able to benefit from a wildcard. Obviously, it will mainly depend on the level of play that I will produce between now and then.

The desire to go to Spain

I want to go and discover the world in Spain. This doesn't mean that I'm going to abandon the Academy in Bordeaux, far from it. Jean-Thomas Peyrou brought me a lot this year and last year, I thank him very much for that.

But I also know thatthere are trips back and forth to Spain despite everything, to be able to progress.

The financial aspect and sponsors

In all honesty, in 2023, I struggled quite a bit. Obviously, I was further behind in the French and international rankings, which attracts sponsors a little less.

Today, to be completely transparent, it is not yet that. I can't tell myself that I live off my sponsors or that I'm financially generous in tournaments and in my year. However, I can allow myself, for example, to go to Dubai. There are also other FIP tournaments that I am preparing for. However, I'm not 100% sure I'll finish my year with the money I raised.

Despite everything, I still have quite a few sponsors following me this year and I can never thank them enough for that!

Gwenaelle Souyri

It was his brother who one day told him to accompany him on a track. padel, since then, Gwenaëlle has never left the court. Except when it comes to going to watch the broadcast of Padel Magazine, World Padel Tour… or Premier Padel…or the French Championships. In short, she is a fan of this sport.
