What a surprise ! Belgium won against France in the quarter-finals of the World Championship padel 2022.

Fourth in the previous edition and led by the players of the World Padel Tour Alix Collombon and Léa Godallier, Les Bleues were favorites in this confrontation against the nation which had finished in sixth place in Qatar.

The first match won 6/1 6/2 by Godallier/Pothier against Bernard/Van Mol reinforced this feeling of superiority of the French selection. What followed was very different.

It was first Helena Wyckaert and An-Sophie Mestach who gave everything against Alix Collombon and Charlotte Soubrié and surprised everyone by giving their country the equalizer. A match won mentally: 6/3 6/7 6/4.

The two nations tied, the third game was undecided between Amélie Detrivière / Mélissa Martin and Elyne Boeykens / Dorien Cuypers. Here again, it was the mentality of the Belgians that made the difference in another meeting which lasted more than two hours: 6/4 5/7 6/3.

It's obviously a great performance for the players of Thomas Deschamps who will play tomorrow in the semi-final against Spain.

For Robin Haziza's group, it's a real disappointment and we will have to learn the lessons of this failure. But before that, the tricolor will have an important classification match tomorrow against Portugal to try to finish as high as possible.
