The French team of padel-armchair fought but was still defeated against the great Spanish favorites at the Madrid Worlds.

invincible army

After its victory yesterday against Morocco in pool A, France had everything to gain against the Spanish ogre, who came with his invincible armada of wheelchair players.

To try a game of poker, the French team had placed its lowest ranked pair in No. 1, so that the two best tricolor pairs tried to create a surprise. Serge Garnier and Jean-Marc Keghlian therefore had the honor of playing – without any pressure – against the Spanish n°1 Edorta de Anta and Topher Triviño. The latter, ruthless, honored their status, not taking their opponents lightly but without giving up the slightest game.

The second best French pair, composed of Sébastien Husser and Tony Boval, played in n°3 against Alvaro Garmilla and Luis Peinado, with the hope of shining. But the science of the game and the placement of the Spaniards, helped by the laser services of Garmilla, allowed them to win 6/2 6/1. The two Alsatians, however, hampered their opponents, without being consistent enough to materialize often enough the chances of games they had.

Spaniards sometimes jostled

Logically, it is the best French pair of the moment who sold their skin the most dearly: Dorian Navarro and Nicolas Vanlerberghe nevertheless had the formidable mission of challenging the very impressive Oscar Agea and Marcos Cambronero. Very spectacular, these two Spaniards chained winning smashes, millimeter volleys, shots with perverse effects and lethal contrapared, to the delight of their supporters who came in large numbers to the courts of Serranillos del Valle.

But against them, the Navarro / Vanlerberghe pair was in no way impressed, displaying a level of play that surprised and sometimes jostled the Spaniards. After a first set lost 6/3, the French ran after the score in the second, trying to recover a lost serve quickly. But Agea and Cambronero did not give in and maintained their lead until the end, offering some retro-effect drop shots in the process, of which Agea has the secret. Final match score 6/3 6/3.

This 0/3 defeat does not allow France to aim for better than a 2nd place in the pool. But for that, it will still be necessary to beat Costa Rica this Saturday from 16:30 p.m. The Central Americans lost 0/3 to Spain yesterday and defeated Morocco 2/1 this morning.

If successful, the Blues would find Argentina tomorrow for a classification match with 3rd place and a bronze medal in these first World Championships at stake. padel-armchair.
