The second stage of World Padel Tour was to take place in 2 weeks in Vigo. But the organizers decided to cancel the event due to the epidemic of coronavirus.

Less than 24 hours ago, we had already mentioned this topic. But the virus is also gaining ground in Spain and the professional circuit must cancel its test.

World Padel Tour announced it a few minutes ago on its site, here is the translation:

Due to the evolution of the situation generated by the transmission of COVID-19 (coronavirus) in Spain and the preventive measures adopted by the Spanish government today regarding the celebration of all sporting events that are disputed on Spanish territory, the city council of Vigo and World Padel Tour want to declare the following:

1. The two organizations, as host and organizing institution respectively, respect the decision adopted by the Ministry of Culture and Sports of the Spanish government.

2. As a consequence of this, and due to the proximity of the ordeal (March 22-29), the city council of Vigo and World Padel Tour have decided to definitively cancel the Vigo Open, the second event on the WPT calendar, considering that it is a health alert of force majeure and the impossibility of fully guaranteeing the sanitary conditions to protect the health of the players, fans, sponsors and other attendees of the event.

3. The two institutions will try to find a date in 2020 or in the next edition of 2021 if this has not been possible.

4. World Padel Tour would like to inform all fans who have purchased a ticket for this event that they will receive a full refund for their entry.

5. Finally, the WPT and my town hall in Vigo hope that this major epidemic will be eradicated as quickly as possible.
