Yanis Muesser and Simon Wagner, born on January 10, 1999 and January 27, 2000 respectively, celebrated their 24th and 23rd birthdays this Sunday with a slight delay but in the most beautiful way. The two young people from Strasbourg have indeed won the first P1000 of their career in the club where they train, the 4Padel Strasbourg.

A dream tournament

In this room that they know by heart, the 30th and 34th French players had a dream tournament, leaving only four games in the quarter to the pair Ranghella / Thouvenot, and no more in the half to Henry and Coirault. But the final promised to be much more complicated against the tournament's No. 1 seed, Yann Auradou (10th Frenchman) and Maxime Forcin (13th), regulars in the P1000 and P2000.

If the latter had to fight in three sets in the semi-final on Sunday morning, against a tough François Authier and Pierre Vincent, they arrived as favorites in the final against players playing their first final at this level. However, it was the latter who proved to be the most opportunistic to make the break at 5-5 and win the first round (7/5). In the second set, the seeded 2 applied to the letter the tactics put in place with his coach of the day, the Lorrain Jérémy Macchi, and managed to make the hole and win 6/3.

A superb performance for these two players from tennis and still ranked 2/6, after being 0 and 1/6 at their best ranking. And a long way to go, especially for Wagner, who still pointed beyond the 2000th place just over two years ago.

“We will try to rub shoulders with the international circuit”

“It was really a goal that we had set ourselves, so we are super happy, reacted Yanis Muesser. We had a really good tournament, being very serious in the first rounds, and then we found ourselves in a final in which we were outsiders and frankly, we said to ourselves that it was to face such teams that we play and practice. So we allowed ourselves to dream, we played our match with very good tactics and we are very happy with the result. »

"On the project side, Simon is passing his state tennis diploma, I am still in Masters (*) so we don't have time to only do padel. We're concentrating for the moment on the French circuit, that's where we have fun and where it's easiest to get around. We will try this year to rub shoulders with the international circuit with a few FIPs, in particular the French and Belgian dates. We will see what it gives. »
