Pablo Ayma was to make his first as coach of theFrench team. No surprise in the group, but everyone had to earn their place!

The internship was decisive

Padel Magazine : How did you choose the pairs? What elements did you take into account?

Pablo Ayma: "The first thing I did was build a roster of right-handed players and a roster of left-handed players, as well as one of players capable of playing both sides. I took into account the level of play, the level of competitiveness, also the attitude and the professionalism. My work was mainly to see how these players played in the different competitions, because the level is not always the same in training or in competition.

Padel Magazine : Was the internship in Barcelona decisive for making your list?

Pablo Ayma: "Yes, it was decisive. It is very important for me and for everyone to have done this internship. Beyond allowing me to make my choice, it allowed me to see how these players exchange, how they play together. I made many combinations of pairs. I also held an individual meeting with each player to get their feelings. A very good, but very competitive atmosphere was set up, because everyone understood that their place was at stake. The players worked hard.

“During the camp I was also able to see senior players who did not have the level I expected, and other young players with less competition who had a very good level. Everything was very balanced.”

Padel Magazine : Who will be the replacement players?

Pablo Ayma : “My idea is to involve the eight players I called up. We have the ability to change pairings from game to game and that's what we will do.”

Blanqué n°1 in the mini ranking

Padel Magazine : Which players surprised you the most during the camp?

Pablo Ayma : “I made a ranking of all the meetings, which allowed me to see who played the best, or who got along best with his partners to obtain good results. Bastien Blanqué finished No. 1, fought very well and won the most games.”

"Jeremy Scatena battled hard and proved he should be in the top eight, not only for his level but also for encouraging his teammates both on and off the track.”

“Actually I wasn't really surprised because I knew them all. Players such as Johan Bergeron, which should be at the top of the ranking, were not. He lost many meetings, and that made me doubt. At the end of the course he recovered and proved that he must be part of this France team.

Guichard at the gates of the World Cup

“Players had an excellent level and could be perfectly in the list. I think of Dylan Guichard. He progressed a lot, and it was one of the most difficult decisions. I am sure that if he continues like this, he will be one of the best French players quickly."

“Adrien Maigret is finally in the group, and he has really earned his place. It was a surprise to see him at this level. I had seen him in bad shape in Perpignan. I told him that if he wanted to be part of the team, he was going to have to work hard, and he did: he improved physically. One of his strengths is that he can play both sides, and he knows all his partners very well. He can play with everyone.”

"Jérôme Inzerillo had a very high level of play in all the matches and Maxime Moreau also impressed me with his physical level and his commitment."

“Thomas Vanbauce is a young player with great potential. On the left there are plenty of players at a higher level, but he could be in the eight. Grué also did a great job. Forcin has a lot of talent, and if he practices more he can reach a very high level. What's good is that the twelve worked very well, and it was very difficult to choose the eighth player. I think Dylan was the closest, it was a story of combinations.

To be among the four best nations in the world

Padel Magazine : Is France's objective 3rd place?

Pablo Ayma : “Talking about a 3rd place is a very ambitious goal. We have to be realistic, and we know that teams like Brazil have fantastic players like Lima, Campagnolo or Bergamini. It is a very hard place to reach."

"Getting bronze would be fantastic, but very difficult. 4th place will also be complicated, because there are teams like Portugal and Italy. We really want to be in the top four countries in the world.”
