A few weeks ago we learned that following the incident took place during World Padel Tour Buenos Aires Master last December, Pablo Lijo received a heavy sporting sanction. Indeed for having made an inappropriate gesture towards the public, the Galician is now banned from participating in the first 12 WPT tournaments of the season. A historic decision on the circuit.

Surprised by the importance of this sanction, the 31-year-old player tried to appeal but the WPT did not follow up and confirmed this punishment. Thus Lijo will not be able to find the grounds until June, during the Marbella Master.

During an interview with our colleagues from Twenty Ten Padel, the player returned to the incident, but also to his relationship which was already strained with the circuit managed by Setpoint Events SA.

Personal revenge?

As we know, for some time the relations between the Spaniard and the World Padel Tour are not looking good. And it is obviously not this sanction that will fix things. A few months ago Pablo Lijo published an open letter addressed to the leaders of the circuit and more precisely to Alex Corretja in order to complain about the lack of recognition towards the players.

The player acted knowingly, suspecting that there could be reprisals: “when I published this letter, I knew there would be consequences. "

Pablo Lijo, Human Padel Open clenched fist

“I had been aware for several months that by making this very strong letter against the WPT public, I was starting a war and I knew that if I did something stupid, something would happen to me. And so it was, I sportingly deranged and they took the opportunity to take revenge.”

What future for the player?

"The sanction is not for the gesture towards the public but rather for everything that took place next to it. That there is a sanction, I repeat, it is obvious, but this is all the same the most important in the history of the WPT and I would even say padel professional".

As you will have understood, Pablo Lijo's season seems compromised on the Spanish circuit and with 12 competitions less, managing to move up the rankings is a miracle. So it is logical that the 31-year-old young man should orient himself on the other circuits that are Premier Padel, the Cupra FIP Tour and A1 Padel. At the microphone ofIsaias Blaiotta, Lijo has also mentioned being interested in the circuit of Fabrice Pastor.

The 2023 season is about to start and we should know more in the coming weeks regarding the player's near future.
