The inconsistency of the WPT

Last week, the World Padel Tour wanted to present the players with an offer for the coming seasons. The circuit has a complaint lodged against the players regarding the clause which states that players cannot participate in other tournaments.

“I think you have to be consistent. You cannot go to court for an exclusivity clause and, at the same time, make a proposal for the future without including this clause. You actually admit a mistake at the end”, explains Villaverde.

Corretja, at the heart of the debate

The figure of Alex Corretja was taken, notably by Pablo Lijo, to personalize the WPT and express the discomfort of the players. Corretja arrived in the circuit to convince the players, but ended up in a very difficult situation to manage.

“Corretja is an interesting figure, but the WPT uses him to access each player individually, and the player has learned things in the past. He can give added value, but not in the way they act”, expresses the lawyer of the PPA.

"Corretja is conditioned by an opinion, perhaps imposed by the board itself, that 'the PPA are the bad guys in the movie.' The starting point is negative. I don't blame him, but that's the situation”, continues the Spaniard.

Despite this somewhat chaotic situation, the events of padel are multiplying, and this will ultimately have a very positive impact on the development of this sport.

“We are getting to a point where things are accelerating. I hope they will be resolved in favor of the players, who are the ones who make the show and on which the whole circuit is built”, concludes Villaverde.
