For their entry into the running, the favorites of the Premier Padel Qatar Major had a rather quiet day. All the top seeds have in fact reached the 1/16th round, with one exception: the only surprise of the day is to be credited to Rafa Mendez and Javi Martinez, which dashed the hopes of Javi Ruiz and Gonzalo Rubio (TdS14). The latter would have liked to repeat their feat of last week, when they reached the semi-final of the World Padel Tour Abu Dhabi Master, but they lost in three sets.
Shortest game: 18 minutes
Galan and Lebron (TdS1) had no problem winning 6/3 6/3 against Windahl and Solano. Stupaczuk and Di Nenno (TdS2) were even faster, dominating Zapata and Sans (6/2 6/3). And it took even less time (53′) for Tapia and Coello, TdS5, to inflict a 6/2 6/0 on Hernandez and Jofre.
53′ is still six more than the 47′ required to see Ale Ruiz and Momo Gonzalez crush Marcos and Sanchez (6/0 6/1). A “record” of speed beaten by two minutes by Lima and Nieto, at the expense of Benitez and Del Castillo (6/1 6/0). But the shortest match of the day was by far the one won by Chingotto and Garrido (TdS6), in just 18 minutes, but it was after the pair Javi Rico / Jorge Ruiz retired.
Only one pair of big names was shaken up this Wednesday: Paquito Navarro and Juan Tello (TdS3) indeed needed three sets and more than two hours to get rid of Pablo Cardona and Ivan Ramirez. The latter, quarter-finalists last week, won the first set in the tie-break, before giving up the next two 6/0 and 6/3.
Conversely, in the last match of the day, Belasteguin and Gutierrez left no hope – and no game – to the qualifiers Jimenez and Fermosell.
First test for Galan / Lebron
Tomorrow, already thrilling oppositions are announced in 1/8th, with in particular Navarro / Tello against Sanchez / Campagnolo, or Lima / Nieto against Leal / Sanz. Gonzalez and A. Ruiz will have to be wary of Bergamini and V. Ruiz, as well as Tapia / Coello de Moyano / Gil.
Galan and Lebron, meanwhile, will be entitled to a first test by finding Yanguas and Arroyo on their way, two young players who had taken a round from them in Abu Dhabi.
