One of the greatest (if not the greatest) coaches in the history of padel answered our questions, at the Pyramides club.

Lorenzo Lecci López: You are currently training a French pair, how is the collaboration going?

Ramiro Choya: I am very happy with Bastien's year. I was training before the pair, but Johan moved to Barcelona and I'm with Bastien now in Madrid. He struggled to win games but now he's skipping the pre-qualifiers at almost every stage of the WPT. I think it is one of the WPT players who has improved the most this year.

LLL: How did you manage the confinement period with your players?

RC: More than three months locked up… it was difficult. The players all reacted differently. Some needed to talk a lot, others not at all, so I adapted to the players and their personality. Some have worked a lot physically, and others less.

LLL: The WPT is dominated by Spanish or South American players, but the French are coming slowly. Do you think that French players have a chance to reach the last four of tournaments in the coming years?

RC: Of course yes. On the men's circuit, as on the women's circuit. Lately Alix, Laura and Léa reached eighth. French players are on the rise and the FFT is working well with more and more infrastructure. This first generation of players must lead the way for the next generation who will go even further and could go for the first places in the WPT ranking.

LLL: What do you think of the Pyramides club?

RC: It is spectacular. I know the vast majority of clubs in Spain and Europe, and few are like this. Very nice facilities, and wonderful weather. I think playing in such a beautiful place makes the tournament even better.
