The finals of World Padel Tour The Rioja Open gave their verdict last night. Among the ladies, the victory goes to the world No. 2 pair, Alejandra Salazar and Gemma Triay.

The favorites were however jostled by Marta Ortega and Bea Gonzalez, who had eliminated in half the seeded 1, Josemaria / Sanchez. In front of the Argentinian public, the two Spaniards even won the first set after a breathless tie-break, on a lob which Gemma did not play, believing that it had touched the glass.

But from the start of the second set, those who finished the year 2022 at the top of the world hierarchy set off again, obtaining an entry break. At 2-0, we thought they were off to a good start, but the Ortega / Gonzalez pair picked up the score (2-2). For Triay and Salazar, it was necessary to whip again to redo the break and win the second round 6/4.

From then on, the hopes of those who had lost nine of the last eleven confrontations between the two teams were over: committing more faults, Ortega and Gonzalez gave way and no longer managed to seize the opposing mechanics in the 3rd set.

Favorites Triay and Salazar win 6/7 6/4 6/1 and get valuable points to regain the lead against their great rivals Josemaria / Sanchez.
