Sanyo Gutiérrez and Agustin Tapia are having a complicated end to the season, which more or less coincides with the announcement of the Coello/Tapia pair for next season...

Disappointing results for these two players

Two quarter-finals, an eighth-final and a final, this is the record of Sanyo and Tapia in the last four tournaments of the World Padel Tour. A record that would satisfy many pairs, but not the one that points to second place in the WPT rankings…

More than the results themselves, it's often the way that is a bit annoying. In Menorca, the Argentinians were beaten, as in Madrid, by Xisco Gil and Ramiro Moyano, two players who are not part of the Top 20. In Mexico, it was Lucas Campagnolo and Jon Sanz, respectively 18th and 20th, who dominated the champions of the world.

In front of their public in Buenos Aires, they appeared totally absent against Martin Di Nenno and Coki Nieto who swept them 6/2 6/2. An attitude that we had already glimpsed in the final in Malmö when after winning the first set they literally exploded against Lebron and Galan (6/4 1/6 2/6).

An end to the season which is inevitably disappointing when compared with the year experienced by this pair which at the time of writing won five titles in 2022.

Tapia Sanyo joy victory Malaga 2022

A very long season…and a trigger?

Sanyo Gutiérrez told us about it in Dubai, the season is very long and the players are tired of playing so many tournaments and having to line up on two circuits.

This explanation is enough to explain a certain weariness among some players. Martin Di Nenno had us by the way told of experiencing a big slump in mid-season. But is this the only reason for Sanyo and Tapia's downturn?

We would be tempted to say no… Indeed, the difficulties of the Argentinian pair started a little over a month ago, right when the Tapia/Coello rumor (confirmed later) was gaining momentum. In interview for Olé magazine, “El Mago” also seemed a little disappointed that his partner had not spoken to him of his desire to play with the young Spaniard… We can imagine that from there the relationship became strained, and if the two men seem to get along well when things go their way, resentment seems to resurface when they are in trouble on the track.

Now in the very home stretch, the two friends will certainly try to finish the season as best as possible, they who were very disappointed and embarrassed by their performance in Buenos Aires, and who did not even communicate on their defeat in the first round in Mexico City on social networks…
