Back on the interview of Monday, April 27 on Instagram of the 100th player of the World Padel Tour : Jérémy Scatena.

  • His debut in the padel :

I discovered this sport in 2006. I was invited to join a game because a fourth player was missing, it changed my life: I stopped working for this sport! I would say the first or second time I played padel it was with Robin Haziza, Laurent Bensadoun and Nalle Grinda.

  • The evolution of his game:

The game at padel has evolved enormously. Today all “modern” players try to take the net as quickly as possible by finding solutions to move from defense to attack, it is a war of positions.

I think the biggest changes are physical and mental rather than in my game. But it is true that I progressed to the net in backhand volley as well as in smash.

What I really changed to have results on the Wolrd circuit Padel Turn is to be sure of what to do in the field. The other job I did was believe in myself and my abilities.

I was also lucky, playing on the central at the Jaen tournament, I was spotted by Suescun with whom I entered a final challenger table. If I had played on court number 8, it certainly would not have happened.

I was also lucky to spend two days with Willy Lahoz for an advertisement because we had the same sponsor, we forged links. So I played 4 tournaments with him.

  • Robin Haziza update:

With Robin for a while it was great. Unfortunately the last two to three years have been very complicated. We no longer had osmosis, the affinities that enabled us to play well. He was going to play this year with Adrien Maigret, I think we could still have done great things together in the French team. He had an opportunity to have an important position as a girls' coach, and I understand him completely. Robin is very competent to be the coach of the ladies' team, unanimously. We just lose an important member of the men's team.

  • Benjamin Tison's choice:

I had high goals in France, and we get along very well with Ben off the field: it is this affinity that made us play together. I am aware of the fact that it is a risky choice due to our very atypical games for both of us but when we play well, it is incredible. It is the risk of thinking bigger and seeing further.

In France, the objective was to win everything.

On the World Padel Tour, the goal is to win big games as well as to get into the previas. The objective is not a ranking today, but to win very strong pairs because it is the first step to be able to see higher than the top 100.

  •  The choice of the FFT:

The FFT has modeled itself on the decisions taken for tennis. As a player, I find it hard to understand being told that the circuit of the FFT Padel Tour and the French Championship are canceled, and the next day we are told that Roland Garros is maintained but moved to September. I think that a French Championship of Padel is easier to organize than a big event like Roland Garros, without the qualifications of course, but I think there are other solutions.

We will have to follow the health crisis and not do anything but nothing prevents us from making the biggest OPEN tournament for all. To make the biggest tournament and that it is considered as the Championship of France without necessarily the buffer of the FFT, I hope that this will be done.

  • The development of padel :

I think that aid and subsidies should be targeted in places that allow the development of the padel. In Bordeaux for example, there are several private clubs, and there are two padel municipal in 4 cities around a private center for me that does not help to launch the activity. Today we are subsidizing the construction of a padel at the bottom of a tennis club, it's wasted money.

The human factor is an essential factor today. Knowing how to receive and take care of customers is the main thing. People want service, watch the Champions League, have a drink with their opponents and partners, they want to have fun, live!

  •  His work with Jean Michel Pequery:

The fact of having reached the top 100 is largely thanks to the work I have done with Jean Michel. He is a person who brings me a lot. Mental work has taught me that in a match either you win or you learn.

  • On Max Moreau in the French team

In terms of level of play, the question does not arise. After it is Alexis' will, Max's will to be part of the team. Always these questions right-left always a little complicated. But if Max has the will to be in the France team, given his level of play, there is no reason why he is not there. Max has a crazy backhand volley, so it's a big plus for playing right. And on the right you need a big physique, and he also has it… So I think he can be very strong on the right, as much as on the left.
