After PadelPro Cup and the French Open of padel, Sébastien Ruiz de Conejo, player, coach and padel manager for the Dunlop brand Padel looks back at the evolution of padel in France and internationally, but also at the French players who are making their mark on the national circuit.
Padel, an international development
Padel is experiencing times it has never known before. Padel is developing in France, of course, but it is above all a global development.
What is surprising is that padel has existed for 40 years. However, in France and more generally in the world outside of Latin America and Spain, it has only been in the last 3/4 years that padel has really developed internationally.
I launched the Maigret brothers
I have been in tennis for a very long time. I have a history in padel that is starting to date... Padel having developed in the Paris region, I launched the Maigret brothers in this sport and other players in the Paris region like Benjamin Tison among others. And today, we see them on the front of the stage. It's really great for them but it doesn't surprise me that much.
They arrived with a heavy technical baggage already. They are talented and passionate about this sport. Obviously, it's an explosive cocktail.
Dunlop Padel, an essential brand
The Dunlop brand Padel offers high quality material. Dunlop snowshoes Padel have real added value. The problem is that there are over 150 brands on the market, and most of them don't add anything.
In the long term, brands that know how to invest in the development of technologies will develop while others, and it starts already, will have to stop. For the moment, it goes from all sides and we can imagine that it is not so obvious for the end user. But few will last in time.
Franck Binisti discovered padel at the Club des Pyramides in 2009 in the Paris region. Since then, padel has been part of his life. You often see him touring France to cover major French padel events.
