Thomas Leygue, who won the first round of the Mendoza main draw Premier Padel P1 in Argentina alongside its partner Ferran Insa, looked back on its complicated start to the season until this superb victory against 2 players from the top 60 (FIP ranking), Diego Gil and Ignacio Sager.

“A difficult start to the season”

“Since the start of the season, I was really struggling. Things were complicated with Guilem Figuerola. I struggled to find stability with my partners. I knew change was going to come at some point. I was in very good physical shape in pre-season, maybe even a little too much. Fortunately, I was able to count on the work done upstream, which helped me. I have a team, my family, my parents who are always there for me. You just had to be patient.”

"I needed Insa's confidence to start again"

With Ferran Insa, we had already participated in the Valladolid tournament. We had played well. Insa was also in full confidence after winning two FIP Rise in a row. I needed a partner who trusted him. I often doubted during matches, but I knew I could play at this level.

Sager is my old partner and my best friend. We were so close in life that it was less obvious to be on the ground. We didn't manage to play well together. With Nacho Sager, I had beaten Moya / Alonso, world top 30. I had already realized some performances of this type.

“3ᵉ times I reach the 2ᵉ lap on Premier Padel"

This is the third time that I participate in tournaments Premier Padel, like at Roland Garros, in Mexico and in Mendoza and where I reach the second round of the main draw. It is in these tournaments that I achieve my best results.

“Aiming for consistency against Yanguas / Bela”

As for Yanguas/Bela in the next round, they have everything to lose. They have just traveled, our objective is to hold the service to make them doubt. We are on the beat. The goal is to play a good game and not get crushed. We aim for consistency. This is the last tournament before the break at the end of this first half of 2023.
