This Sunday morning was the grand finale of the Alicante Open 500 opponent Ortega / Araujo à Riera / Icardo.

These two pairs, who met for the first time finally gave us a very good fight.

A very hooked first set

The first round saw two pairs who were determined not to give up. Neck and neck for almost the entire set, the two teams battled hard and despite a slight 5/3 advantage in favor of the Hispano-Portuguese pair, Gaby Reca's players were able to get back into the game to regain the lead at 6/5.

After a short break on the bench it was the Madrilenian and the Portuguese who took advantage of the advice of their coach to equalize at 6/6 after winning the 5rd "punto de oro" of the match!

We take the same and start again

Bis repetita during the second round: the four protagonists did not make any gift and the public were able to revel in hotly contested points. Each blow was returned and when one of the two pairs took the advantage, the other was quick to reset the counters to zero.

After almost three hours of play, the players of Maxi Grabiel, who led 6/5, did everything possible to close the match. But it was without counting on the determination of the Hispano-Argentinian pair who had not said their last word. Tamara Icardo and Virgina Riera thus managed to equalize and take their opponents to a new tie-break, thus giving themselves a final chance to get back into the game.

After a suffocating sudden death and airs of deja vu, it was at the end of the suspense and on a second match point that Martita Ortega allowed his team to win the title in Alicante.

Final score: 7/6 – 7/6 and first title for the new Araujo/Ortega association.

Now it's time for the men's final opposing Gonzalo Rubio and Javier Ruiz à Juan Luis Esbri and Eduardo Alonso.
