This Friday were held the last quarter-finals of the WPT Menorca Final Challenger.

In the men

At the start of the day, it was the Bautista – Santigosa pair who, after a match lasting just over an hour, managed to get their ticket to the semi-finals. Indeed after a controlled game the two friends won 6/1 – 6/4 against Daniel Luna and Adrian Marqués. They will thus meet Antonio Cano and José Garcia Diestro who only needed two sets (7/5 – 6/2) against the Blanco – Yribarren pair at the end of the afternoon.

Another qualified duo is that made up of the promising Mario Huete and Candido Alfaro who were able to take advantage of the flaws of Martin S. Piñeiro and Pablo Garcia yesterday. Dominating at the start of the match, Martin and Pablo completely broke down after seeing the second narrowly escape them. It is with a score of 2/6 – 7/5 – 6/1 that Alfaro and Huete fly off to a well-deserved semi-final. They will face this Saturday the giant Rafael Mendez and his partner Javier Martinez.

The latter emerged victorious in their face-to-face against Emilio Chamero and José Jimenez during a match hung 7/5 – 6/7 – 6/2.

In the ladies

If there had been no surprise during the first part of the quarterfinals, there was indeed a very big sensation this Friday with the elimination of the Alayeto twins, seeded 1!

Indeed this Thursday during the first quarter-finals Carla Mesa and Lucia Sainz had left no chance to Victoria Iglesias and Aranzazu Osoro, inflicting a severe 6/4 – 6/0 on them. They will therefore meet Marta Marrero and Claudia Jensen, victorious against Alix Collombon and Jessica Castello.

This afternoon Barbara Las Heras and Veronica Virseda, after a one-sided match against Mari Carmen Villalba and Carmen Goenaga, also won their pass for the last four. In less than an hour of play and in just two sets they won 6/2 – 6/0. They will face tomorrow morning Lorena Rufo and Claudia Fernandez who won in three sets against the Alayeto twins 6/3 – 2/6 – 7/5. Despite a balanced match, it was the outsiders who were able to prove themselves more solid against the natives of Zaragoza!

See you tomorrow at 10 a.m. WPT-TV to follow the first poster Mesa-Sainz vs Jensen-Marrero.
