They trembled for more than an hour, but they triumphed in a 3rd set won in a breeze! Paula Josemaria and Ariana Sanchez won the WPT Madrid Master this Sunday, their 7e title this season. They also win their 16e consecutive game this season.

Gustavo Pratto's players were however jostled by Aranzazu Osoro and Victoria Iglesias, who were playing there their very first final on an Open or Master of the World Padel Tour.

Osoro and Iglesias threatening

The match had started without either team being threatened on its engagement, during the first four games. But soon enough, Aranzazu Osoro and Victoria Iglesias started to be more threatening and efficient, while Sanchez and Josemaria made a few mistakes.

A slight domination which materialized at 5e game, when the seeded 6 seized the service of Paula Josemaria. At 3-2, Victoria Iglesias, under pressure, managed to hold her serve on punto de oro (4-2). And in the next game, Osoro / Iglesias, trailing 0/40 on Ari Sanchez's serve, only gave in at the decisive point, narrowly missing the double break (4-3).

Osoro then won his service easily, confirming a certain serenity of the pair of outsiders (5-3). And Victoria Iglesias, serving for the set, won the first set 6/4 at the first opportunity. A domination confirmed by the stats, with 53% of the points won, two decisive points to one won and a break to zero.

A new second set entry break

From the start of the second set, Osoro and Iglesias were enterprising, granting themselves three break points on the engagement of Paula Josemaria. The first is the good one, allowing the Hispano-Argentinian pair to lead 1-0, after 57 minutes of the match. But Sanchez / Josemaria pushes hard and manages to equalize on punto de oro (1-1).

Sanchez then won his service easily, allowing the favorites to lead for the first time in this final (2-1). Is this the turning point of the game? The forcing continues indeed on the service of Osoro, who, although having led 40/15, is robbed of his service on a new punto de oro, the 5e Of the game. It's 3-1 for the Spaniards, determined not to let this second set slip away.

But in the next game, Osoro and Iglesias go back to battle and get three break points on Josemaria's serve: that won't be enough! Back to the wall, Sanchez and his partner go back and put a new punto de oro in their pocket: 4-1.

Nothing is easy in this game, all points and games are acquired in pain. Iglesias finally believes he is keeping his commitment to 6e Game ? Well no, the Spaniards come back and get their 5e punto de oro of the match (the 7th in all) and their 3e break of the set: they lead 5-1 and serve for the set.

Will Iglesias and Osoro give up and focus on the 3e ? Not at all: they immediately broke on one of the rare white games of this final (5-2). But immediately, Ari and Paula go back on the attack to show that they are the bosses: they take the service of Osoro and conclude the set 6-2.

Osoro and Iglesias save the honor in the 3rd set

Everything is restarted, it's a new match that begins. The Sanchez / Josemaria pair seem to be driven by an unwavering determination. She holds her serve and immediately delights that of Victoria Iglesias, before Sanchez confirms the break: the set has lasted 10 minutes and it is already 3-0!

On his next service game, Aranzazu Osoro did not resist the hurricane “Ari-Paula”: another break and the score went to 4-0. The Spanish mechanics may still be jammed? The answer is no. Osoro and Iglesias will save the honor by scoring a game, but Ariana Sanchez does not tremble when concluding this final, on her serve.

The Spaniards win 4/6 6/2 6/1, confirming that they are well on their way to conquering the world number one spot.
