Second final of the day WPT Minorca Open and it was up to the gentlemen to enter the ring.

We were witnessing an unprecedented match between Alejandro Galan and Juan Lebron against the surprise pair of the tournament, Ramiro Moyano – Francisco Gil. The Spaniard and the Argentinian, who were playing their first final together, had nothing to lose in front of the number 1s and the least we can say is that they were absolutely not impressed by the two circuit masters.

A promising pair

The Hispano-Argentinian pair who have been causing a sensation for a few weeks by eliminating big names from the padel, managed to qualify for her first final. In Menorca it was Tello – Chingotto, Sanyo – Tapia or even Sanz – Campagnolo who fell under the balls of the two players.

Today they faced Galan and Lebron and if they failed to recreate the feat, the Andalusian and his teammate still stood up to the numbers 1. Unfortunately for them, the march was still a little high. It is also the experience of the players of Mariano Amat which allowed them to win the first round.

The second set started with an air of deja vu.

If the two pairs went blow for blow, it is good Gil and Moyano who managed to take the advantage in the middle of the heat. While Lebron and Galan tried to pick up the score, the two outsiders were able to hold on.

Solid on his right side, Francisco Gil, who had to deal with Lebron in his diagonal, was able to put his game in place and allow Ramiro Moyano to be more decisive at the end of the second set. The recipe worked rather well because the Argentinian and his partner reset the counters to 0 and pushed the favorites to play a decisive set.

As often after losing a set, the Madrilenian and his partner were able to pick up the pace and regain their best level. Intractable at the end of the meeting, the numbers 1 were solid and aggressive, leaving very few chances to their rivals.

They won 6/4 – 4/6 – 6/2 and thus won their 7th title of the season!

Special mention to the pair Gil – Moyano who will have achieved an exceptional tournament. Will she be able to repeat the feat in future competitions?
