At the heart of Africa Sports Expo 2023, wellness sport emerged as a promising sector, but it was not the only star of this event. Le padel also made a striking entrance.

For some years the padel gaining ground all over the world. Now, he is crossing the Strait of Gibraltar with the ambition to develop on African soil, more precisely within the Atlas, the traditional territory of his eldest, tennis.

During the Africa Sport Expo, major players in the discipline such as Bullpadel were naturally present to expose their products to the general public. However, the focus was mainly on Moroccan communities and clubs. Several court manufacturers had made the trip to stimulate the development of infrastructures dedicated to the practice of padel.

Competitions are also beginning to become widespread in Africa.

Egypt, omnipresent for tournaments

This is only the beginning. This year, eight stages of the three major circuits are planned in Africa, with only one negative point: all of them take place in Egypt. At the beginning of the year, A1 Padel unveiled its calendar, including an unprecedented stage in Dakar, Senegal, from August 28 to September 3. Unfortunately, the circuit of Fabrice Pastor was forced to cancel this tournament. However, he was still able to organize a stage on the African continent. Indeed, the season ofA1 Padel started in South Africa with the Cape Town Master.

In 2019, the WPT had presented an exhibition in Egypt, but for the moment, no stage has been scheduled on the African continent.

For the moment alone Egypt hosts tournaments. The FIP has planned 7 stages there for the 2023 season:

Le padel still has work on the African continent. However, it continues to extend its influence beyond the borders. Africa seems to be opening up to practices other than football and this is excellent news for sports fans.
