On the occasion of Cupra Padel Point Tour tennis Padel Club La Ciotat, Alice De Caunes spoke with Alexandre Toppin, French number 35 and padel coach at the Tennis Club Toulonnais.

From tennis… to padel

I started with tennis. Now I've been playing padel for 6 years. I discovered this sport with friends and I took it one thing at a time. It's now my profession and my daily hobby too.

With Matthieu Armagnac, it works well!

During the last tournament in Perpignan, it was the first time that I played with Matthieu Armagnac and we got along very well. I suddenly think that now the biggest tournaments (P1500, and P2000), I will do them with this player who is left-handed and with whom I get on very well on the field.

Afterwards, for the P1000s, I don't have a regular partner yet, but I like to play with different players so that's interesting too.

The P2000 with Matthieu was one of my best performances in padel. That's where I finished in the best place, we finished sixth, we lost a very close match against Baptiste Moura and his partner for fifth place. But we had a very good tournament, against the winners too we made three sets, which was pretty good and it was encouraging for the future!

A vocation: padel coach

I have been a padel coach in Toulon for a year now. The club (Tennis Club Toulonnais) has really evolved since we are the biggest club in France, if I am not mistaken, in terms of padel licensees (more than 700 padel licensees).

And the club is totally exploding with this sport, we have 10 courts at the club and it's true that in terms of demand for padel lessons, it's crazy too. It's always a pleasure to share this passion through teaching.

Padel, still growing

I started, as I said, about 6 years ago and it's true that at the beginning it was complicated. When we said padel, we were often told about paddle on the water and now people know what padel is and want to play it. Many people play, even older people and it's true that it's very interesting because everyone loves this sport.

The Cupra Padel Point Tour in La Ciotat, a great success!

This stage of the Cupra Padel Point Tour in La Ciotat was really super nice. There were a lot of people, even the little ones who wanted to play, a lot of adults too and everyone enjoyed themselves, I think, with this beautiful weather. It was a great animation with a very good organization!
