Benjamin Tison has it announced on Instagram, he will evolve this season with the powerful Mario Huete, number 75 in the WPT and 106 in the FIP ranking. The Francilien explains to us why he set his sights on the Madrid player.

Trained by Manu Martín

He's a player who made the final draw with Diego Gil and, if I'm not being stupid, he had made huge tournaments last year and two years ago in the Spanish Championship. He does not play in all tournaments, but he is considered quite strong. I've never played with him, but we'll see what happens.

Mario lives in Madrid, he will come to Barcelona for a week in January and I will go to Madrid for a week in February. But as there are 40 tournaments in the year, we tell ourselves that we will have enough time to play together. He trains in the training group of Manu Martín, who is known for his videos on Youtube. It's good because it will allow me to see something else, to have another discourse.

The other advantage of Mario is that, like me, he doesn't have a contract with the WPT, so we can – depending on how things go between the World Padel Tour et Premier Padel – choose a little at the last moment which circuit we are going to do.

An aggressive style of play

I was looking for a player with an aggressive style of play. I saw him play quite a few times, he beat Thomas (Leygue) and Bastien (Blanqué) this year just before the French Championships. I appreciate his style of play, we talked about it with my coaches Pablo Ayma and Nico Gavino, the idea is that I feel good in the pair and that I can really develop my game. was the right choice.

Mario has a very aggressive game, he plays very quickly from the baseline, so we have a bit of the same style. I have the impression that this can allow us to go for big victories, even if we will certainly need a little time to adapt. My game has evolved quite a bit, I like to stay at the back and maneuver a bit. As he likes to go forward a lot and as I like to go up in the second time, I think that we can be complementary.

It's one of the first times we sat down with my coaches and we said to ourselves that now that I have a good ranking with points, rather than mainly looking for points, it was interesting to build a project. It's a bet, we can't know what it's going to be like, but I really believe in it and I can't wait to start this new project.
