The final clap was given on Sunday, of the third stage of the professional circuit of padel worldwide, the World Padel Tour. Contested on the slopes of Padel Plaza de Zaragoza, the tournament was less rich in surprises than the first two stages but the finals were magnificent, both of them, with different results for the favorites.

A short summary of what happened.

  • Female table

The first four seeds in the 1 / 4 finals, the 1 world numbers against their runners-up in the final, we have seen more original in a table of the WPT this year. For the Alayeto twins, who played on their land, had a huge disappointment in the final against Gemma Triay and Lucia Sainz.

After winning the first run, they find themselves at the tie-break of the second with a comfortable 6 points mattress at 2. Patatras, after 6 unconverted match balls they bow in this second round and cross the third as ghosts (6 / 1).

This defeat will be hard to swallow and despite their reign almost without sharing the 2017 season, the competition seems closer and closer to them.

  • Male table

The painting, cut from the world number one Belasteguin and Lima, offered us a show of great quality throughout the Aragonese week. The very big side of the men's draw, Brazil's Campagnolo and Bergamini, stopped in the semifinals despite strong resistance against Maximiliano Sanchez and Sanyo Gutiérrez.

On the other side of the table, the tight semi-final went to Paquito Navarro and Juan Martin Diaz at the end of 3 interminable sets. Back on the track after a blank season, it was the return of the former world number one, JM Diaz in the latter part of Sunday.

This match was a very big fight. But unlike the ladies final, the logic of the ranking has been respected and the pair Sanchez / Gutierrez wins for the second time already this year on the circuit.

In the world ranking, Sanyo Gutierrez returns to 2445 world number one points and it will be necessary that Lima and Bela return quickly on the circuit to avoid leaving the throne to the Argentine player!

  • And our French in all this

Defeat in the first round with their respective partners for Robin Haziza, Alix Collombon and Laura Clergue. The world circuit is really ruthless and it is very difficult to win any game. We hope to see them victorious again in the next steps.

Against the tide of the gloomy results of their compatriots, Johan Bergeron and Bastien Blanque crossed two laps during the pre-previas which allowed them to pocket 8 points each and obtain their best world ranking! They are 159th this week, their goal of getting closer to the top 100 at the end of the year is still relevant!

Go to Jaen in Andalusia for the rest of the adventures of World Padel Tour season 2018!
