As his season kicks off this week with the Abu Dhabi Masters, Arturo Coello answers questions from Manu Carreno on the show “El Larguero” and notably evokes his new association with Agustin Tapia.

Winner of four titles with Fernando Belasteguin last year (WPT Miami Open, Madrid Master, Amsterdam Open and Premier Padel Monterrey P1), the Spaniard was not afraid to put an end to this fruitful partnership: “We changed partners because changes are made according to feelings or needs. I think my time with Bela is over. I keep a lot of things from him, he treated me like a son, but he understood the age difference we had. When we decided to play together, he was 42, I was 19. You have to deal with a lot of situations that you don't see and which are very important. The matches, the routines… He taught me a lot about all that, but I thought it was time for a change.

The native of Valladolid has made great progress alongside the Argentinian, but he is now looking to stand on his own feet, to write his own story. He therefore turned to another South American to set up this project: “Bela and I have always had a very sincere relationship. He knew it was something that could happen. I spoke to my coach and told him that I wanted to play with Agus. And my coach told me to talk to Bela and then Agus. I didn't know if he was going to say yes or no.

Fortunately for the 5th player in the world, “Agus” said yes. An association that excites all fans of padel since its announcement, and that we can't wait to see in action. The 20-year-old prefers to remain cautious despite his goals: “We haven't played a single tournament, so at the moment we can't say that we're going to play for this (world number 1) spot. We have to create a project, get to know each other, but it takes time. It's not something that's going to happen tomorrow.”

The two men will be in action for the first time on the circuit tomorrow for their entry into the running at the Abu Dhabi Masters facing the Mora/Barahona pair.
