For the first time in its history, the padel will be part of the European Games and will even feature in a major multi-sport event since the creation of the International Federation of padel (FIP) in Madrid in 1991.

La third edition of the European Games will take place from June 21 to July 2, 2023 in Krakow, Poland.

Operating mode

Each nation is made up of:

  • 4 male athletes
  • 4 female athletes

There will be three tests:

  • Women
  • gentlemen
  • mixed

We will have 15 nations present. However, some nations will not offer only one pair per category due to the nation's ranking in the world ranking.

Mixed pairs are made up of male and female players already selected.

This “official” and “recognized” mixed event shows that this format has a future and could become a flagship event on international circuits in the long term.

Finally, there will also be one federal representative per nation.

How is the selection made?

First, each national federation in charge of padel is free to organize the selection of its athletes as it sees fit.

In Germany, this selection was made through a tournament. The ladies and gentlemen finalists are directly selected for the European Games. And we already have a Franco-German selected for these European Games: Kristina Clément (to represent Germany).

In France, the selection will be made on the proposal of the National Technical Director (DTN), namely Nicolas Escudé for validation by the COMEX (Executive Committee). The coaches of the French teams will therefore have a central role even if, a priori, they will not be part of the trip.

When will we know the selected players?

It's a safe bet that the FFT will communicate on the athletes selected relatively late, for two reasons:

1 – So that the players can take advantage of this first part of the season to show themselves and achieve results. No choice for interested players: to achieve results in international events and main national competitions.

2 – We can also think that the selections will be made in pairs and that the DTN and the coaches will base themselves on the pairs formed for the 2023 French Championships.

In any case, the FFT will have to announce the selected players no later than June 2, 2023.
