Au padel, there are several types of smashes. So logically, we have several ways of defending against a smash in the padel. Here we will focus on defense against a bandeja and defense on a slow smash.

The Tecnifibre Team Padel, Jérémy Scatena and Willy Lahoz come back to these two options to defend.

Jérémy - Defend on a bandeja

We will talk about defense on a bandeja.

Tactically, the purpose of this shot is to take the ball early to try to recover the net as soon as possible.

So after a lob, play a ball in the feet to project to the net.

For the technique, I advise you to step back from the side window so you have time to take the ball early in front of you and then to put it back in the feet.

The stroke should be short, firm and without playing with the wrist. This last element is very important, it is the key to a good defense on a Bandeja.

Willy - Defend on a slow smash

Now let's see how to defend on a slow smash.

If the ball bounces in front of you, try to play it directly.

If it will bounce behind you, you can let it pass and then play with the glass.

To perform this stroke, it is necessary to position and maintain the hand in a position of strength towards the rear.

We can then perform the movement of the pendulum, starting from the bottom and raising the ball on the upper part of the glass.

The effect of the ball will thus change direction and give us the advantage of position on the ground.

Same thing forehand, where the shot is even more natural.

The movement of the pendulum from the bottom and taking a maximum of momentum to get the top of the window
