It is very common to hear that a pair at padel used a tactic or strategy to start a game. Sometimes this pair realizes that they are not using the right strategy or tactics and tries to change them to reverse the score and try to win.

A priori, it is not easy to understand what are the main differences between strategy and tactics, because they are two terms very easy to confuse. The following questions will help you know how to tell them apart:

What do we want to achieve?

Our goal will be to change everything we do. We can distinguish between long term goals (increase in ranking at the end of the year), and short term goals (winning the tournament Padel of this weekend).

The strategies and tactics we apply must aim to achieve the goal we have set for ourselves.

We focus on our game and that of the opponents to determine the best tactic and strategy for trying to win a tournament.

The strategy

How are we going to achieve this goal?

The strategy to achieve our goal would involve asking ourselves the following three questions:

  • In what physical state are we? What has been our journey over the past few weeks? How do I feel with my partner on and off the pitch?
  • What are we up against? How are the pairs that signed up for the tournament, and what are their strengths / weaknesses?
  • Under what conditions are we going to play? (rain, wind, state of the ground etc.)

Tactics

What specific and concrete actions are we going to take to achieve our goal?

If our goal is to win the next tournament Padel, we are aiming for a series of actions to be able to face the weekend successfully, such as:

  • Do several exercises with our partner, if you do not play regularly with him to get to know him better.
  • Have prepared different situations of games in order to be able to transcribe them at the appropriate moment during the matches of the tournament.
  • Train physically in the field or go running.
  • Have adequate nutrition throughout the week, before and during the tournament.
  • Provide rest sessions between workouts
