They did it !

Benjamin Tison and Victor Mena win their first FIP Gold, this Sunday evening in Dubai against to Adria Mercadal and Ruben Rivera. This is also the first time that a Frenchman has been crowned in a FIP Gold, “almost” the highest category among the FIPs. (The FIP has set up a new category: FIP Platinium).

A complicated start to the game

It was not the start of the match hoped for by the Franco-Spanish pair who, despite a solid game, saw themselves mistreated by their rivals.

Indeed the latter showed a good rhythm from the first games and managed to take the advantage during the first round. Benjamin and Victor had not yet said their last word and were counting on getting back into the game to give themselves another chance of victory.

An extra breath of air

Back from the break with a knife between their teeth, the Frenchman and his partner were determined to fight it out in the 20 x 10.

Unimpressed by their opponents of the day, the Tison / Mena pair beefed up their game and managed to turn the tide by resetting the counters to zero. Solid and well in legs, the two players manage to win the second set and can believe a potential victory.

The consecration set

Full of confidence, the Spanish-French pair did not intend to stop there and knew how to impose their rhythm during the third round. Taking a considerable advantage from the outset over his rivals, Tison and Mena dominate and lead 3/0, raising doubts on Mercadal and Riviera. The native of Mantes-la-Jolie and his sidekick kept the pressure on their rivals and continued to widen the gap, getting closer and closer to their first crown.

It is on a final score of 4/6 6/3 6/2 that Tison and Mena win after almost two hours of play.

Benjamin enters a little more into the history of the padel French because let's remember that he becomes the first tricolor to win a FIP Gold. Last year in the Netherlands, a certain Jérémy Scatena had almost succeeded in winning this title with one of the finalists of the day, Adria Mercadal.
