Le new competition guide of the French Tennis Federation has not failed to get people talking in recent days.
One of the most debated measures: prohibiting members of the Top 500 from participating in the P250. Indeed, we have seen many players on social networks complaining about this new feature, and demanding that the restrictions be based on team weight and not on individual ranking. It seems that those we hear the most are actually a minority…
Indeed, according to a survey carried out by our friends at Casa Padel, more than 90% of you no longer want Top 500 players in the P250. In other words, the respondents believe that this category of tournaments should be limited to players with a lower level, closer to leisure.
These figures should be taken with a grain of salt because only 274 people responded. We might have somewhat different numbers with more voters. But in any case, we can say that not everyone is against this new measure, far from it!
Xan is a fan of padel. But also rugby! And his posts are just as punchy. Physical trainer of several padel, he unearths atypical posts or deals with topical subjects. It also gives you some tips to develop your physique for the padel. Clearly, he imposes his offensive style as on the field of padel !
I think the problem comes not only from the high restriction but also from the fact that there is no low restriction.
If 95% of P250 players complain that it is always the same “top” players who win, I find it normal that a rule is imposed.
Moreover, if this December 2023 rule changes things for cities with a high density of players, in departments with delays it changes nothing because the bar is still too high.
For me there should be even more restrictions in order to limit the registration of a player to only 2 tournament grades depending on the ranking.
If you make P1000, you don't make P250 and if you make P25, you don't make P250 either.
And the P50 tournament category is missing (much more useful than the P1500) which would further reduce the level gaps in tournaments, even if many egos would take a hit.
there are not only 500 players ranked from 1 to 500.
the reality: in certain regions, the p250s (not very numerous) are taken over by amateur players more modest in ranking and level, who no longer want to do p100 because it no longer earns them points and they feel stronger.
and complained of having “too strong players who had nothing to do on p250”.
I organized a lot of very tough p250s, with players in the 200s who wanted to play and train, even if it didn't earn them points. I once even had 4 top30 finishes in a p250 tournament.
I took great care never to send the tables or names of the registered players in advance, because many would have withdrawn. displayed on site.
there are also “orders”: more modest players who pay top300 players to play with them in 250 and arrive more easily among the first. or in a friendly manner.
some coaches or very good players do this activity, course + support package in tournaments. now they will no longer be able to p250
this ban on p250 for players in the 500s can move things forward.
the level of p250 will be less raised.
Above all, many players in the 500s were making p250s JUST TO PLAY BECAUSE THERE WERE TOO FEW P500S AND YOU HAD TO GO MUCH FURTHER TO MAKE THEM.
MAIS
These players will actively look for P500, which were already rarer (because of the monetary endowment obligation). now it is optional, at the discretion of the organizing club.
This does not mean that there will be more P500 in the different territories.
a P500 requires a minimum of 16 teams, the final tables are in format B, it takes more time and land, and for the clubs a “shortfall compared to income from rentals and paid reservations”;
beyond that, in certain regions, and in clubs with many indoor tracks, making a very lucrative activity of rentals and paid reservations, tournaments are stopgaps because they are less profitable: are therefore (in IDF) mainly in day during the week, almost nothing in the evening during the week and on weekends.
therefore not accessible to those who work normal hours,
but rather for... students, or self-employed or teleworking or RTT or unemployed or pensioners or tennis teachers or working staggered hours.
we must continue the reflection, which we had to do upstream, and not just listen to those disappointed/frustrated to see big players on p250.
and also anticipate the fact that there will not be much more p500 than there is currently, even without the prize money obligation.
I personally think that the “ban” should have been for players in the 300s in p250, and players in the 1500s in p100
many players also think, as p250s are not that numerous (compared to the number of p100s and p25s) and very much in demand, that there must be, as in p500s, an entry in the ranking and not in order of arrival ( on d-7 we admit the x best teams, the rest waiting)

It’s normal, there are only 500 players who can complain about this absurd rule!!!!
