This Thursday afternoon was played the 1/8th final of this WPT Human Padel Open opponent Alix Collombon – Victoria Iglesias à Maria Jose and Maria Pilar Alayeto. The Frenchwoman and her partner, who performed very well the day before in the round of 1, were keen to shine this afternoon in the pink city. But it was without counting on the experience of their adversaries.

A stunning first set

Alix Collombon and Victoria Iglesias, who disputed their 1/8th final against the formidable "gemelas atomikas", managed to make an incredible start to the match, dominating their opponents without much difficulty. Chaining unforced errors following multiple attacks from the Franco-Spanish pair, Mapi and Majo were unable to impose their usual game. In just a few minutes, Alix and Victoria managed to widen the gap, thus leading 3-0. Stung to the quick, the twins did not give up and after regaining regularity they achieved a great performance by picking up the score (4/4).

During the 9th game of the game, the two teams went blow for blow and it was on an aggressive glass return from Alix Collombon on a "punto de oro", that the Lyonnaise allowed her pair to regain the advantage. Short-lived advantage because after an unforced error from the Andalusian, Mapi and Majo hang up the wagons again. On their good run, the latter manage to regain the advantage and win in this first set 7/5.

Unplayable sisters

After filling up on confidence at the end of the first round, the natives of Zaragoza decided to speed up and no longer let themselves be trapped by their rivals. After a break, the twins manage to widen the gap a little more thanks to a well-deserved 3/0. Indeed, after a rather timid start to the match, Maria José and Maria Pilar showed a very different face afterwards and this second round reflected their state of mind after the break. Solid and aggressive, the Spaniards were able to impose their rhythm, sowing doubt in Alix and Victoria and taking the advantage a little more (5/0). Intractable “las gemelas atomikas” were launched and the machine was not ready to stop.

After more than an hour and a half of play, Maria José and Maria Pilar Alayeto put an end to the Franco-Spanish pair's dreams of a quarter-final and won 7/5 – 6/0.
