After their victory in Valencia, the Superpibes arrived with great confidence at the BNL Italy Major. This Tuesday, the Argentines, that everyone obviously sees in the semi-finals, had to fight until the third set to free themselves from the Leal/Diestro trap.

Aftersurprise elimination of Momo and Sanyo, we did not go far from a huge sensation in the Italian capital!

Palpable tension and crushing heat

From the first round, the Superpibes are taken aback. Leal and Diestro are in great shape, they showed it well in the first round by taking a whirlwind win over Javier Rico and Leo Augsburger 6/0 6/2. The Spaniards are confident and manage to make a break from the start of the first round. Carlos Pozzoni's players can't come back and end up giving up the set 6/4.

Martin Di Nenno and Franco Stupaczuk find themselves in a delicate situation. The heat invites itself on the Central of the Foro Italico and the nerves are on edge, but the Superpibes find the necessary resources to reverse the situation. More incisive than in the first set, Martin and Franco regain their power. This time, the roles are reversed, and it's up to the Spanish pair to suffer the onslaught of the Superpibes. The latter manage to equalize to a set everywhere: 6/3.

An epic third set

But Javi Leal and José Antonio Diestro have not said their last word. The fight is intense and the abnegation of the Spaniards at each point is remarkable. Javi and José throw themselves on all the balls and are impressive in defense. The Superpibes fall back into their ways and under pressure from their opponents get broken at 3/2.

The public feels it, Stupa and Di Nenno are about to give in. The change of side lasts, each team takes its time on its bench and we feel all the pressure that weighs on the two Spaniards. Maybe too much pressure? So far Leal and Diestro have been perfect, but as they serve to lead 5/2 in the deciding set, they end up breaking down and making mistakes. Stupa and Di Nenno take advantage of this moment of weakness to return to equality. Carlos Pozzoni's men will even have a break point to take the lead, but the Spanish pair manage to dismiss it.

The fate of the meeting is played in the tie-break. More impactful, Di Nenno and Stupa take the advantage and lead 5/2. Leal and Diestro don't give up and come back up. After saving a match point, the Spaniards will even get one. Under pressure, Martin and Franco prolong the suspense and miraculously save a point that could have propelled their opponents into eighth.

Finally, the third match point is the right one for the Superpibes who extricate themselves from the Leal / Diestro trap, with this victory in pain 4/6 6/3 7/6 (10/8 in the tie-break).

Carlos Pozzoni's men will find Lijo / Semmler or Nieto / Sanz in the round of 1.
