1, 2, 3 and soon 50, it is the choice of suppliers who will offer you synthetic turf for your football pitches. padel. It is therefore a question of choosing well. Who ? French ? Spanish ? With or without sand? Joko Padel, specialist in slope maintenance, gives you his advice.

A perfect bounce

We observe through our field feedback but also as players that all tracks have different rebounds. The objective is obviously to have the most uniform rebound possible, a good grip on impact to succeed in his par 3 and to have sufficient height to make the exchanges last. Different criteria come into play: the uniformity of the slab (of course), the quality of the product leaving the factory, the know-how of the teams of installers and regular maintenance that adapts to the state of the ground.

Beyond your service provider, you should know that a carpet is considered to be “good” for 3-4 years and that it deteriorates afterwards. You will tell me it depends on the frequency of play but on average it is this lifespan of 3-4 years that comes up most often. And know that the proper maintenance of your mats saves you 2 to 3 years of use.

With or without visible sand?

You should know that all synthetic coatings for padel contain sand. On older versions of mats, the sand is simply on top of the fibers (packed fibers) while new generation lawns absorb the sand thanks to their density. It's both more aesthetic and more stable for gamers.

You often hear people say “I want WPT turf” or talk about “Mondo quality”. For ease of maintenance and a perfect rebound, take 12 mm braided (“texturized” fiber). It will be a little more expensive but with good maintenance you will optimize it to the maximum and the players will be conquered.

How to choose your supplier?

The ecosystem of padel in France is clearly brand new. Many companies are emerging or adapting old practices. We can advise you to turn to qualified companies that have solid expertise and references.

Joko Padel works exclusively with suppliers who have NF EN 15330-1 or PQP certification (Quality Plan Padel) in accordance with the specifications of the FFT.

Some technical advice

The agents Joko Padel recommend around 7 kg/m2 for new generation carpets. This is the minimum quantity because, as we recall, the carpet only holds thanks to the quantity of sand integrated into it. Contrary to popular belief, the mat is not glued to the floor so that it can be changed.

Maintenance is therefore essential for a good rebound: the mat, the initial sanding, the periodic sanding, the loosening (accumulation of sand) and the cleaning of lint or ball residue are all things to watch out for to have the best track. Aging carpet fibers will leave marks on the balls. It is then necessary to distribute the sand towards the center and add the necessary quantity of sand to avoid premature wear of the carpet.

Joko Padel advises a minimum maintenance of once every three months for your carpets and especially the use of adapted tools and machines: it is essential to keep your carpets alive longer and to better satisfy the players in your clubs.
