After determining who was the best smasher in the world, Padel Intelligence returns with an analysis on another essential blow of the padel : la bajada.

Little reminder: the bajada, meaning “descent” in Spanish, is a technique which consists of bringing down, some would even say smashing a high ball from the back of the track. In fact, we hit this shot above or at shoulder level after a high lob that bounces and comes off the glass too much.

The Palme d’Or for Victor Ruiz

As we can see in this diagram, only one player exceeds 30% efficiency by hitting more than 14 bajada per match since the start of the season: it is the Spaniard Victor Ruiz. Incidentally, the player who achieves the most Bajada per match, just ahead of Javier Rico who is nevertheless not the tallest on the circuit with his meter 67. A second chance for the “small” players who nevertheless want to hit high balls hard.

Rubio, the world champion of efficiency

In pure efficiency, however, the Spaniard is ahead of a few players, notably Sanyo Gutierrez, Coki Nieto and Javi Cardona. Finally, while he was the only player to have a smash success rate of less than 50%, Gonzalo Rubio can nevertheless boast of having the bajada the sharpest since the start of the season, since this shot wins him the point a third of the time.

The world efficiency champion, Rubio, is in fact the only player to reach 32.5% efficiency for less than 9 bajada per game.
