There is nothing official yet, but strong presumptions: according to unofficial but credible sources, an official rapprochement between Premier Padel and World Padel Tour should be done from 2023!

Not to mention merging, a “grouping of Premier Padel and World Padel Tour within Qatar Sports Investment could be on the agenda as early as 2023".

Recent statements by the president of Qatar Sports Investment Nasser Al-Khelaïfi already presaged a rapid outcome of the negotiations underway between the WPT and the circuit owned by QSI, in association with the FIP. “Discussions with Damm (note: owner of the World Padel Tour) are going very well. We are now very proud to announce that the girls will finally join Premier Padel..“, said Mr. Al-Khelaïfi, also president of PSG, to our colleagues from Marca.

Merger, acquisition or absorption?

If the days of World Padel Tour in its current form are counted, as we wrote it tuesday, it is still unclear what form the new unified professional circuit will take. Are we heading towards a merger between the World Padel Tour et Premier Padel where the two actors would be on an equal footing? Or, conversely, will it be a pure and simple takeover of the Spanish circuit by QSI, the WPT then being absorbed by the circuit? Premier Padel ?

These questions will translate very concretely through the name of the future circuit: it could take the name of one of the two current circuits, mix the two names or take an entirely new name. We also offer you a survey to give your opinion on this subject.

The coexistence of these two circuits operating in parallel but without competing frontally would also be studied.

Towards a single world ranking

Another important question for players: the points already acquired at the start of the 2023 season during the WPT tournaments and the Premier Padel already disputed will they be counted by the future single circuit? And held in a unique FIP world ranking ? Not to mention the parallel classification of A1 Padel (read below)… The fear of the players is indeed that the points won will be erased and the tablets reset to zero – which is hardly imaginable sportingly.

On the other hand, it is clear that players would welcome the prospect of a single circuit which would prevent them from getting physically exhausted by playing between 30 and 40 tournaments during the season. Remember that the WPT has planned 27 this year and Premier Padel About ten. A merger of the two circuits would inevitably lead to a reduction in the number of events.

However, as long as a deal is not signed in black and white, a twist that would derail things is always possible. But it is clear that the padel professional, the International Federation and the fans of this sport have everything to gain at the end of the war between the WPT and Premier Padel, marking the advent of a giant of the padel World.

What a place for A1 Padel ?

A reunification between the WPT and Premier Padel and the creation of a single WPT and FIP ranking would be a game-changer for the padel global. But this grouping would be done without the circuit of Fabrice Pastor, A1 Padel, with its own world ranking. It is now independent and expanding, particularly in North America, where it has just announced the signing ofan agreement binding it with Yankee Global Enterprises.

A1 Padel can continue to grow on its own, as is the case today. But by dint of growing, one can imagine that this circuit will whet the appetite of QSI, which could be tempted to unify all the professional circuits of padel. Like a boxer who knocks everyone out to unify the world belts...
