“The draw was really not kind for a first round. Even if Coello and Tapia are recognized as monsters on the circuit, we should not underestimate Arroyo and Rubio who are excellent players. Watching Coello on the pitch, I had the feeling that he was not at his best. His volleys were less sharp than usual and he made a lot of mistakes. I also noticed some signs of weariness quite early in the match, as if he knew he wasn't at his best. Next door, Tapia seemed more talkative, encouraging him more than usual.

But the real star of this match was undoubtedly Rubio. He blew me away in every aspect of the game. At one point, I even thought Arroyo was going to break under the pressure. But the pair followed their tactics to the hilt, which is anything but easy against these two titans. Arroyo used the parallel lob perfectly to push Coello back, while strategically positioning himself in the middle when playing high.

It is clear to me that the games of Coello and Tapia were analyzed in depth for many hours in order to find an effective strategy, especially given their domination during the first half of the season. The season being long with many matches, perhaps this defeat is simply the result of a momentary drop in performance for the number ones. But this shows to what extent the padel is unpredictable and exciting!”
