The first step of World Padel Tour started. And this year 2018 started with a Master where we saw new pairs being formed, but also our French people doing great things. A little tour on this first of the professional circuit of padel.

            No surprise in the semifinal posters of this first tournament of the season. The first 4 seeded will be at the rendezvous tomorrow. In the lower part of the table Alayeto binoculars enforce their status as the best players in the world with two wins in 2 innings. They will face Triay / Sainz who have not lost a set either.

On the other side we went not far from a big surprise but Marta Marrero and Alejandra Salazar are doing well at forceps 4 / 6 7 / 6 6 / 1. The duel against the Spanish Ortega and Sanchez looks very tight.

  • Male table

            On the side of the men we saw more surprises even if the number 1 Belasteguin / Lima is for the moment in ballad in the Catalan tournament. Defeated in the first round, Argentinian Gutierrez and Stupaczuk, though seeded number 4 have started their season badly for their part.

As for the pair everyone was waiting for, Paquito Navarro and Juan Martin Diaz, they easily passed their first two laps before falling very dryly 6/3 6/0 to Galan / Diaz today. Paquito's words on his Facebook account clearly show the shock of this defeat: “Today we were caught in a tornado, bravo to them! On our side we are going back to work, this is only the beginning of the story ”

His former partner Sanyo Gutierrez will be present on the central track with his new partner Maximiliano Gutierrez despite a set left in the first round.

  • And the French in all that

            They were 5 at the start of this first stage of the professional circuit of padel.

Robin Haziza bowed in the first round of pre-warnings with his partner Ferran Sotillo. We hope to find him soon with Jérémy Scatena.

Our French champions Blanque / Bergeron lost at the same stage against two better ranked players but the score can leave us regrets 7/57/5. Both players are very happy with their level of play and their progress during the offseason. See you in 10 days in Alicante to confirm!

For Laura Clergue, who returned directly into the final table, the walk was a bit too high against the number 8 Navarro / Reiter.

The ray of sunshine came from our French champion Alix Collombon. After two wins in qualifying she scored her first WPT points but did not stop there with a victory in the first round. First tournament and already first 1 / 8th finals, so encouraging for his first season on the circuit. With the points gathered, it should make a sensational entry into the world top 100 around 70 / 80th place. We are impatiently awaiting the rest!
