Our colleagues from Padel Directly teach us that the World Championships Padel will be played without Sweden, 4th European nation.

The World Championships Padel 2021, planned in Qatar from November 15 to 20 will be played without two of the best European nations: Portugal, and now Sweden.

According to our colleagues Padel Direkt who contacted Tomas Andersson, President of the Swedish Association of padel, the reason is simple: Sweden had not registered for the competition in 2020 due to the pandemic and the FIP did not reopen registrations for 2021. In short, even if the 2020 Championships were indeed postponed to 2021 because of the health crisis, it would still have been necessary to register for the competition last year.

In a statement, the Swedish Association of padel regret this situation and says to be “Disappointed that the FIP has chosen not to open registrations for the World Championship for countries wishing to participate in 2021.” A press release in which she also criticizes, like Portugal, the choice of Qatar as host country: “Qatar is a country where human rights are violated. The country was also not a member of the FIP when it was assigned the organization. ”

For the moment this information has not been confirmed by the FIP but it is in any case regrettable for our sport to play Worlds without two of the five best European nations…
