Jo-Wilfried Tsonga is a monument of French tennis. He is now also an ambassador of padel and showed his qualities on the court during an exhibition with players from theAPT Padel Tour.
An exhibition of the APT Padel Tour
On the sidelines of the Challenger tennis tournament which begins today in Saint-Tropez, a padel exhibition was organized by the All-In. Several players from theAPT Padel Tour traveled to France to put on a show on the court.
Jo-Wilfried Tsonga therefore took part in a meeting alongside Johan Bergeron, against Tito Allemandi and Facundo López. Brothers Miguel and Nuno Deus and Javier Perez Morillas also participated in the event.
This exhibition is perhaps a first step for the APT Padel Tour in France, which could possibly bring a French stage to its 2023 calendar!
A golden ambassador
Jo-Wilfried Tsonga retired from the sport a few months ago at Roland Garros. The 2008 Australian Open finalist changed his racket for the weekend and is enjoying himself on the padel court.
Tsonga is a right player capable of hitting very hard at the smash. Le Manceau prefers to play on the right to avoid having to play too many backhand balls:
“I play on the right because the backhand side has never been my forte! I really like playing on the forehand side.”
“The difficulty for a tennis player in padel is patience. It remains a fairly physical sport, because the rallies are long and it's intense. You can't afford to have your attention wander because the rallies follow one another very quickly. We're not used to the glass either, and then you also have to manage your partner, especially when you play with Johan (Bergeron),” he explained to Padel Magazine.
From his names, we can guess his Spanish and Italian origins. Lorenzo is a multilingual passionate about sports: journalism by vocation and events by worship are his two legs. He is the international gentleman of Padel Magazine. You will often see him at various international competitions, but also at major French events. @eyeofpadel on Instagram to see his best padel photos!
